    Reflections :: Mommy Me-Time

    August 29, 2013 /

        Here comes an important self-admission: I have no kids.  I am not a Dandelion Mom. I am a single woman in the second half of my thirties who has devoted the better part of two decades to the work of women.  Specifically, how we relate to ourselves, our identity, our experiences of self and the roles we play, and our experiences of our spirits, our spiritualities, our personal growths and beliefs.  I am not a mom, no, not at all.  You’re right, I don’t get it. Yes, the difference between us is that for me, taking time for me, honoring something as decadent as me-time and personal growth…

    Culture :: Lunches From Around the World

    August 28, 2013 /

    Lunches From Around the World   Kids around the world are preparing to go back to school—that means homework, new friends and … lunch? Yes, that’s right! Let’s visit different countries and see what yummy food the school kids eat every day!   France- French children enjoy a 3 or 4-course meal that is made from high-quality ingredients, and is mostly made from scratch. The children all sit in the same eating area, the cafeteria. An interesting fact is that there are no vending machines in schools, because they’re banned due to the high sugar and fat content of the treats they carry. Typical school lunches here can have a…

    How to Treat Poison Oak or Poison Ivy

    August 27, 2013 /

        Handling Poison Ivy and Poison Oak on Small Children When your baby is old enough to start playing outside, you’ll probably be excited to take her to the park or even out to the woods. For the most part, this is great exposure to a new learning environment. As a first time mom, you’re probably quite cautious as it is. Even being cautious though, your child will eventually encounter poison ivy or poison oak. For the most part, poison ivy and poison oak are simple to treat. But you need to keep certain things in mind as you provide treatment. Most of the time, your child will be…

    In the Spotlight :: Pirate’s Dinner Adventure

    August 26, 2013 /

        We were invited to see the new Pirate’s Dinner Adventure in Buena Park yesterday and had an absolute blast!  I have wanted to see the show for many years now but haven’t had a chance to go.  My daughter invited a friend who also loves pirates and the look on both of their faces the entire show was really too much fun.  We arrived early and were fortunate to have a quick tour by Celeste who has worked there for over 8 years.  She recommended we watch the pre-show and we sat in a large room with a bar as the stage.  The pre-show was a precursor of what…

    Parenting :: Tips for Parents of First-Time Teen Drivers

    August 26, 2013 /

        It is the day that every teen dreams about and every parent dreads. It typically starts with your teen slipping enthusiastically behind the wheel of your car and often ends with your heart beating wildly in your chest after enduring a grueling and often jerky ride. It is the first day that your teen can drive. It also happens to be one of the best times to set some rules and expectations for your child’s future use of the car. Set Expectations It is important to stress to your teen that driving a car is not a right, but a privilege that she earns by obeying the laws…

    Recipes :: 5 Easy and Fun Snacks for School

    August 25, 2013 /

    It has been interesting to see what my daughter actually eats from the lunch I pack her for school.  Some days she will eat everything and on other days,  I find she made a trip to the cafeteria for a somewhat healthy treat.  A few weeks ago, she ran up to me at pickup and apologized for not eating the sandwich I packed her.  In her words “Mom, I am very sorry I didn’t eat the lunch you packed me, but on accident, I went into the cafeteria and somehow a box of Coco Puffs fell onto my tray and I also grabbed some milk.  Oh!  Did you know that when you…
