    Ideas to Throw a Great 4th of July Party!

    June 30, 2013 /

        When we were kids, a few days before the 4th of July, my dad would drive into a nearby city that sold fireworks.  My brother and I would spend a considerable amount of time looking over the different packages they offered and always made sure we had some sparklers, the spinning flowers, and of course a couple grand-finale bottle rockets.  Back in the day, people were allowed to purchase fireworks and use them on the 4th.  This part was usually the highlight of the day for us kids and we loved opening up the large box of fireworks!  Now-n-days, our city is the only place you can view fireworks at the local…

    Ask the Doctor: Natural Remedies for Anxiety

    June 29, 2013 /

    Ask the Doctor: Question: I feel constant state of anxiety and I am worried it may get worse. What can I do? When a parent, we tend to worry, be fearful and nervous with (almost) every move our kids take: from learning to walk to driving a car.  To a degree, these are all normal; however, if these feelings become extreme and manifest into physical symptoms, a diagnosis of mild to severe anxiety might happen. Anxiety is a general term when people experience challenges in their lives that cause nervousness and worry. It occurs in acute situations but when people have trouble letting go and become nervous and worried constantly…

    In the Spotlight with Cozi

    June 27, 2013 /

    Most moms can attest to feeling overwhelmed from time to time.  Between work, family life and trying to maintain a social life of some sort, life can feel chaotic sometimes.  I am always looking for ways to stay organized and even have a plan this summer to get our household de-cluttered.  We will post about this huge feat over the summer which I am doing so I will be held accountable by my lovely dandelion moms!  One of the ways I stay organized is by writing down our schedules – between all of my daughter’s school and sporting events, we are pretty busy as are most parents!  The only problem…

    Reflections :: Family Reunion Week

    June 27, 2013 /

        It was my 78th family reunion this past weekend. My father’s dad, one of eleven children, and my Grammy the saint, would pack my dad and his six brothers and sisters up and haul them into the mountains in Pennsylvania to be with their aunts and uncles.  I’ve never been there, but grew up on fed stories of Lonely Acres much as I did on food.  The dirty swimming hole, the cabin for all the kids, games that included a supposed rolling pin toss between couples, that left the men running towards the pond and the women falling over one another with a body laughter so specific only women know it’s true. When I…

    Educational & Kid-Friendly Landscaping Ideas

    June 26, 2013 /

        Landscaping can not only enhance the beauty of your home, it can help your family learn and grow. A beautiful landscape provides all types of opportunities for physical and mental development in children. According to an Academy of Art landscape architecture program, landscapes “restore the earth’s processes and systems” — landscapes that can teach children “to see the world in a new way.” You don’t have to have unlimited time and funds to create a kid-friendly lawn. The following landscaping ideas can create an educational outdoor environment that still looks luxurious: Flowered Tree House The classic tree house is always a sure-fire winner with the kids. But with today’s…

    Inspirational Mom :: Laura J. Benson of Jeanne Beatrice

    June 24, 2013 /

        One of my dearest friends is a Frenchwoman who lives around the corner from me.  Every year she and her family head back to her hometown in Bordeaux, France and spend the summer months hanging with her two sisters and mom. Oh, the perks of being a schoolteacher!  For my birthday last year she gave me a French market basket she brought back with her from her last trip and I must say I am in love… yes, with a basket! It is so simple, yet so stylish, and I love to bring it on trips to the beach, Farmer’s Market or to the pool.  It is perfect…
