Gardening Styles : The Desert Garden

    January 7, 2013 /

The desert is a mysterious beauty. At first glance, one might encounter harsh temperatures and extreme aridity; quite inhabitable to many. Yet, the desert teems with life. With an abundance of more that 400 plant species, the desert blooms in a variety of colors; thus, making the desert an inspiration for landscape designers and gardeners. The desert garden gained in popularity due to its low level of maintenance, eye-catching appeal and hardiness. In addition to flora, landscapers traditionally include water features, gates, benches and arches. Plants may be planted in a variety of ornamental containers or in layered beds to achieve multi-level dimensions. In the garden, paths are constructed…

    Tory Johnson’s Spark & Hustle 15-City Tour

    January 6, 2013 /

Last year I attended the Tory Johnson’s Spark & Hustle business seminar in Los Angeles, California.  Erin Condren had told me about the event about two months prior during our phone interview.  She told me she had seen great success with her product sales after being featured on Good Morning America Tory Johnson’s program that features entrepreneurial moms and their products.  She said Tory invited her to be one of the featured speakers and recommended that I attend the Los Angeles event.  I don’t normally attend these type of events, but after doing some research about Tory Johnson and the Spark & Hustle seminars she created – I figured this just might be the push…

    The Health Benefits of Yoga

    January 4, 2013 /

After the birth of my daughter I took up yoga to help with getting back in shape and to reduce my stress levels.  No one really tells you how hard it can be at times raising a child and I found some real peace of mind in my yoga classes. Yoga is one of the oldest known health practices in the world and studies have shown that it helps with reducing stress, lowers blood pressure, regulates the heart rate and even slows down the aging process!  Yoga is a subset of Ayurvedic medicine and is a system of psychophysical exercises designed to integrate the physical, mental and spiritual energies…

    Ruby’s Studio: The Friendship Show

    January 3, 2013 /

The Mother Company and Ruby’s Studio was started by two friends, Abbie Schiller and Samantha Kurtzman-Counter who both have a background in television.  They wanted to create a slower-paced and educational program for children that would focus on topics such as emotional literacy.  With award winning Ruby’s studio we find adorable Ruby talking to groups of children about various topics.  They described Ruby’s Show as a mix between Mr. Rogers meets Mary Poppins.  Ruby has such a magical way to interact and speak to children that my daughter immediately responded to the show. In their newest release “The Friendship Show”  they talk about the importance of friendship using adorable animated segments, art…

How to Keep Your New Years Resolutions

    January 2, 2013 /

Have you ever made a new years resolution before and then failed to keep it? Relax! You’re not alone. Getting caught up in the champagne bubbles and excitement of a new year is easy. Sticking to your brand new resolutions is much, much harder. It is estimated that nearly 80% of people break their new years resolutions, and 20% do so in the first week! So what can we do to buck the trend and make our new year resolutions stick? Well, you can start by making the right kind of resolutions. Try not to make blanket statements, or have an all-or-nothing approach. If you say, “I’m cutting…

Reflections: Being Content With Our Choices

    January 2, 2013 /

One of the reasons we have a section on dandelion moms called Reflections is for women to share in their observations about the choices they made and offer some insight to women who are in the beginning, middle or even later stages of motherhood.  One of my favorite illustrations from Charles Schulz, the creator of the Peanuts, is the one where Charlie Brown is sitting by the pond with Snoopy and says “In the Book of Life, the answers aren’t in the back.” How true is that observation!  As women we need to trust our gut instincts and do what works for ourselves and our families.  This might mean working at home, not working,  or working outside the home. …
