Charles M. Schulz Museum & Research Center

    December 22, 2012 /

Charlie Brown and his friends have warmed the hearts of generations of children and adults.  Charles Schulz was a genius at finding humor in the trials and tribulations we call life!  I think that is part of the appeal of the Peanuts is their ability to make us laugh at life.  I have been a big fan of Charles Schulz’s work and when I was a kid, my stuffed Snoopy went everywhere I went.  Charlie Brown Christmas is one of my favorite holiday shows to watch with my daughter and it warms my heart everytime I see the crew dancing around Schroeder playing the piano. This week I was looking for some fun quotes…

Disney-Pixar’s Monster’s, Inc., Storybook Review and Giveaway

    December 21, 2012 /

In our home library of movies Monsters, Inc., is one of our favorite movies that we watch over and over again.  We are very excited about the sequel coming out this summer! I just love the idea that monsters are afraid of children and we just  love Sullivan and Mike!  This week Disney-Pixar re-released their hit animated feature Monsters, Inc., in 3D, and are now offering Monsters, Inc. Storybook Deluxe for the iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch and even iPad mini.   In the app, kids join Sulley and Mike on their quest to return Boo back to her home, while also trying to keep her out of sight of course. The app features the original character voices…

    Letting Your Soul Show

    December 21, 2012 /

Recently I received an email from a conscientious woman whom I know to be devoted to warming the world in her own special ways.  She was venting frustration over this year’s onslaught of holiday greeting cards that felt, well, obligatory to her.  To put it in her words “…it concerns me a bit that people are so busy, and/or don’t take the time to write a little personal note.” This made me smile with empathy. We are trained to live our lives a very specific way.  I mean that word–trained.  I speak to the homes we are raised in, the social circles that support us, the communities and societies that extend out from each…

Snowflakes and Christmas Carols (Why We Need Christmas This Year).

    December 20, 2012 /

Under normal circumstances, this is an interesting time of year.  The idyllic mixes with reality and creates for each of us an individual holiday picture.  Over the course of the past twelve months, we have lived through triumphs and hardships, trials and tribulations, all personal and all meaningful.  These events set the tone for each of our respective Christmas seasons.   And we, as humans, emotionally attach ourselves to material possessions to set the perfect stage for Santa.  The perfect tree; the perfect gift; the perfect dinner party.  Get the carols on.  Send the cards out.  Go through the motions, the hustle and bustle and feel good.  Send the…

Publishing Hearts Holds Fundraiser for Families in Newtown, Connecticut

    December 18, 2012 /

Most everyone I know is and will continue to be saddened by  what happened in Newtown, Conneticut and many wish there was something they could do to help.  I was just saying last night to a friend how I wanted to help in some way and am thankful that I heard about a group of people who organized an auction that will benefit the families of Newtown, Connecticut. This is a fundraiser in the publishing industry that will benefit the families and victims of the Sandy Hook shooting.  Following is an explanation that best-selling author Shelli Johannes-Wells gives as to why she and Miral Sattar organized this auction and how people…

    Artist: Tricia Courtney

    December 18, 2012 /

Recently I came across the work of artist Tricia Courtney whose oil paintings really struck something with me.  I love the colors she chooses and how the flowers seem to pop off the canvas.  We had a chance to speak this week about her work and her upcoming new book Floppy Sue’s Birthday Adventure that will be published as an eBook through Pixel Mouse House.  Here is what she says about what inspired her to start creating and about her new story.  A happy experience at the George A. Spiva Center for the Arts in Joplin, Missouri “many, many years ago” led to Tricia Courtney’s lifelong love of art. “My…
