Salt Lake City For The Holidays
I love to travel and see the world, but I have found some wonderful things to do and see right in my own back yard. Utah has been my home for many years now, and even though I have moved away a few times, I always seem to find my way back. Salt Lake City has something to offer everyone. It’s a beautiful city that sits right up against the Rocky Mountains, offering fun dining, shopping areas, dance, music and theater, museums, indoor and outdoor sports, and of course, the great outdoors. If you love being outside, then this is an awesome place to find yourself. This city is a great…

Project Night Night Helps Children Feel Valued and Safe
Last year I came across an organization that melted my heart. It is called Project Night Night and was started by Kendra Robins in 2005 because she saw a need to provide some comfort for children who are displaced out of their home into shelters due to domestic violence or financial reasons. Surprisingly, 1 in 50 American children will face homelessness in her or his lifetime. Together with volunteers across the country they have provided over 30,000 tote bags to over 700 shelters that are filled with a stuffed animal, an age-appropriate book and a soft blanket to help ease the fear and worry they might have. I had a chance to speak to Kendra about their…

The Eight Days of Hanukkah
Hanukkah also known as the Festival of Lights, is an eight-day Jewish holiday that is observed for eight nights and days, starting on the 25th day of Kislev according to the Hebrew calendar, which may occur at any time from late November to late December in the Gregorian calendar. This year Hanukkah starts at sundown on December 8th and lasts until December 16th. The story of Hanukkah is quite beautiful and is one of miracles and of overcoming Greek influence over the Jews in the Land of Israel. Antiochus, the Greek ruler, forbade any Jewish religious practices, so a small group of Jews called the Maccabees revolted against this power. This group…

How To Stay On Budget This Holiday Season
How To Stay On Budget This Holiday Season I know I said that we would start to look at home-based business bookkeeping systems, but I’d like to take a quick break and talk about the holidays. This is a very stressful time for most people. One of the biggest stressors is the cost. So, how can you get what you need and still stay on budget? I have a few ideas: Make a List! First, make a list (I love lists) of all of the people you need to purchase gifts for. Next, make a list of other things you need to buy. Do you need or want any…

The Happiest Little Elf
It’s that time of year again. With what feels like the blink of an eye, we’re back to celebrating the holiday season. It seems that with each passing year, as the kids get older, this special time of year seems to roll around faster and faster. I don’t know about you, but I dread the day when the kiddies no longer scamper down the stairs on Christmas morning and squeal with delight at the sight of presents under the tree. I never want the magic to end! Somewhere around mid-December of last year, my family was ready for Christmas, but it wasn’t quite ready for us. The tree has been…

Living Through Superstorm Sandy
We were lucky. Sandy huffed and puffed but didn’t blow our house in. I wish the same could be said for tens of thousands of people along the north east coast line who were not so fortunate and still face the daunting task of pulling their lives back together. Sandy was scary. No two ways about it. We started to feel the effects on Sunday but the real storm arrived on Monday. The skies darkened. The trees began to sway more and more violently as the hours passed. The tension of what might happen began to grow in our stomachs. The power began to switch on and off, teasing us.…
