Traveling Back in Time in Havana, Cuba

    July 8, 2017 /

Written by Cassidy Murray As time goes by and cities and countries grow larger and greater, there is one country that remains frozen in time following the same traditions and ways of life we were accustomed to in the 1950s. This amazing city with its complicated history and incredibly energetic vibe is Havana – the capital of Cuba. Last winter my family traveled to Cuba where we spent a week exploring Havana. The city is very exotic and old fashioned in a poodle-skirt and hot pink 50’s convertible sort of way. Havana has European architecture and a fun Caribbean feel which makes the city look more antique and rustic than…

Crockpot BBQ Chicken Sandwich with Homemade Coleslaw

    July 7, 2017 /

Can I confess something… I have never made homemade coleslaw before!  It is one of those things I would just pick up from the grocery store and never thought to make myself.  Well, today was the day we (my husband and I) decided we would follow a new recipe we discovered that calls for coleslaw and when he said “let’s just buy some” the adventurer inside of me came out and said “no, let’s try to make our own.”  Boy, am I glad it did because folks, this just might be the best coleslaw recipe you’ve come across!  Who knew it could have so many flavors and not…

A Southern Dish: Shrimp and Grits

    July 2, 2017 /

This recipe comes from the talented Bobby Flay but we did tweak it a bit.  I absolutely love Southern food and grits is right up there as my top favorite foods!  I grew up eating grits with eggs and bacon and love when I find them served here in southern California restaurants, which unfortunately isn’t very often. Just kidding.  But it really is so good it is hard to refrain from eating too quickly.   Here is what you’ll need:   4 cups of water salt and…
