Inspirational Mom :: Nadine Bubeck of All Things Mama
A few weeks back while looking at the Disney On The Road Agenda, I read about one of our keynote speakers for the event, Nadine Bubeck, and was impressed with all that she has accomplished as a mom, wife, TV personality, host, speaker, blogger, and author. But what I found most refreshing was her take on pregnancy and motherhood. It is nice to hear when a fellow mom talks about pregnancy in a way that other women can relate to. What I mean is in a way that isn’t described as all unicorns and rainbows if you catch my drift. Personally, I wasn’t really one of those moms who…

Melissa’s Musings :: Enjoying the Simple Things
These past few months have been some of the most challenging I have experienced in my life. No one can prepare you for losing a loved one and I think it is something that once you go through such deep sadness one is changed forever. I do feel less afraid of death as I feel my father’s presence around me. And knowing that he is just on the other side waiting for my family comforts me somehow. Some of the things I’ve learned along this journey include: Not everyone is comfortable talking about death. I found out pretty quickly that many of us are not comfortable talking about death or…

Soy Wax Candles Offer a Healthier Alternative
Photo courtesy of Flickr The Many Uses of Candles: As candles started to wane as the major light source due to the introduction of the light bulb, they became more of a decorative item. Candles became available in a broad array of sizes, shapes and colors, and consumer interest in scented candles began to grow. During the 1990s, new types of candle waxes were being developed due to an unusually high demand for candles. New waxes have been introduced including soybean wax, which was a softer and slower burning wax than paraffin wax, and palm wax. (Source: Wikipedia). So with the holidays just around the corner this is a great…

New Options Available in the Fight Against Breast Cancer
Image courtesy of Flickr The only option women have had for the past 45 years to check the health of their breasts is the screening mammogram. Our doctors or friends didn’t really explain anything about the mammogram just that it was used to find breast cancer. As I started to investigate the mammogram I discovered that there were some inconsistencies. I was not going to trust my chances of finding breast cancer to a technology that was inaccurate. Here are three facts I discovered: 1) only the breast tissue that “hangs off” the chest can be seen in the mammogram film, missing the upper outer quadrants of the…

Movie Review: When The Game Stands Tall
Image courtesy of Movie Guide When The Game Stands Tall is a football movie. But this is a football movie about far more than the sport. It’s not about grown men; it’s about young men growing up. And it’s not just for football fans. This movie is for everyone. With the leadership of Coach Bob Ladouceur, the De La Salle high school football team won 151 straight games over twelve years. They hold the record for the longest winning streak by any team for any sport. Even the longest professional winning streak is a mere fraction of what De La Salle has achieved. When The Game Stands…

Inspiration Found at Disney On The Road
Okay, by now you probably know I am a big kid at heart and love all things Disney! After attending the Disney Social Media Moms event back in April I truly appreciated (even more) what an amazing visionary Walt Disney really was and love that he never gave up on his dream of creating the Happiest Place On Earth! Which I can honestly say is one of my favorite places to go with the family. I love to see my daughter’s face light up while on the roller coasters or when she runs into a Disney character at the park. Plus, there is something about eating popcorn while walking…
