Special Needs Parenting: Uncoventional Choices and Unconditional Love
Please allow me to introduce myself. I am a soon-to-be-single mother of two special needs children.. I love duct-tape, MacGyver and was born thinking outside the box. I am an independent thinker who often got in trouble in school and college for speaking my mind and not following the crowd. As far as I’m concerned – that qualifies me to be one great special needs mother. Not quite three months ago, I made an irrational, illogical and emotionally-based decision that I had been struggling with for over a year. My bipolar/add/LHON/anxiety/pediatric migraines with aura daughter (Bipolar Girl) was deeply depressed and unresponsive to medication, counseling, social events/play dates, etc. She…

Tips to Get Your Home (and Life) Organized
My wish list includes having my house organized from top to bottom. One of my best girlfriends is super organized and I swear you could open up any drawer, cabinet, door in her house and it would be organized! I think there are people who are like that – super organized – but I am not one of them. However, I do appreciate it when the house is cleaned up and semi-organized with things in their places. This summer I have a goal to clear out all the things we don’t need, use or want. Now, if you saw my garage you would realize what a huge undertaking this really…

Mutual of Omaha’s Wild Kingdom Celebrates its 50th Year Anniversary!
“The continued existence of wildlife and wilderness is important to the quality of life of humans.” ~Jim Fowler, Wild Kingdom Host and Conservationist. Mutual of Omaha Wild Kingdom Celebrates 50 Years! As a child, my brother and I looked forward to the nature and wildlife shows by Mutual of Omaha’s Wild Kingdom. You have to remember back in the day (a long time ago is suffice to say) there were not 5,000 channels to choose from. We had like 12 channels and had to be happy with the selection – period. Luckily, we had great programs available through Mutual of Omaha Wild Kingdom which premiered on January 6, 1963. For 50…

Musings :: The Intrigue of A Dream Catcher
Yesterday, I took my daughter out of kindergarten early and headed to Knott’s Berry Farm. Lately, I have been feeling like time is just going by too quickly and she is growing up right before my eyes. The other morning I came down the stairs and found her playing with her Lego’s in her superheroes pajamas and it reminded me of a story I had read years ago about how the author found as the years went by the fingerprints on the walls went higher and higher as her children grew and the toys she had to pick up on the ground went from baby toys, to Lego’s to teenage…

Dandelion Moms Project Kindness for June
Last year my daughter played soccer through a really great program called Soccer Shots. I liked that at 5 years of age she was learning the basics of soccer set in a fun environment. There was a lot of focus on character building and on how we treat others as part of the program. I met the founder of Soccer Shots, JoBen, at one of the practices and we started talking about his organization and the important work they are doing with his nonprofit Beyond Boundaries Academy. I am so impressed with what the organization is doing as far as the character-building emphasis in the program as well as a providing a positive outlet for…

Instagram of the Week :: Meet “Earl” the Staghorn Fern
My Love Affair with Staghorn Ferns: The first Staghorn Fern I came across was years ago at a good friends housewarming party. Her family had recently purchased a home that had the most amazing plant hanging from the side of their gazebo. I was instantly smitten and set about finding out more about this exotic plant. I found out it was a Staghorn Fern and thus started my love affair with this tropical plant. Fast forward a few years and my husband and I were moving into our first house and when I came across the largest Staghorn Fern I had ever seen (2 x 2 feet) at an estate…
