Fall Fashion Trends 2013 :: Leather!
Finally,finally,finally the weather here has cooled down. Today was the first day it felt appropriate to actually have a pumpkin spice latte! Now that the temperatures are getting cooler, I am especially excited to wear one of the biggest trends this fall which is leather and faux leather. When I was in my early 20’s and living in New York City (showing my age now), I had 3 (yes 3) motorcycle jackets. How I wished that I had maybe one of them now?! Alas, I have found some great replacements of not only a motorcycle jacket (now referred to as “the moto”) but of some other fun key…

Fashion :: A Love Affair with Fall Coats
My love affair with coats probably started while I lived abroad and experienced what cold weather really meant while living in Japan. It happened that the city I lived in, Shizuoka Prefecture, was known for having mild winters, but for a Southern California transplant they were much more severe than what I had grown up with. Since then, I have had this… need I say obsession with coats. My husband will just shake his head if I bring home a new coat I found at our local resale boutique (BEST place to get coats) and have a look in his eyes like Really? You need another one? And I just hang…

Fashion :: Cool Fall Looks for Moms
Fall officially started last week and we finally have some cooler weather here in southern California! Finally time to break out the boots and coats – well, maybe not coats quite yet, but my sweaters are ready to be worn. If you are like most moms, we do like to look stylish, but don’ have as much time to spend on fashion as we did pre-kids. Or maybe you are one of those moms who can pull it together in no time at all and look super fabulous all the time! Sadly, I am not one of those moms and need a little help in knowing what works together…

Ask the Doctor :: Best Supplements for Teens
Ask the Doctor: Question: My teenage daughter seems sluggish and has skin blemishes. It is hard to get her to eat properly, but what supplements could I give to her? Being a teenager is work; they are learning not only what is taught in school but tremendous life lessons. Unfortunately, diet is usually not a priority so supplementation can be ( simple) and essential. We are smoothie drinkers in our house which I appreciated when my kids were young and now again, as they are tweens and teenagers; I can hide things in smoothies! Below are a few supplements I have my kids take regularly. For a vitamin…

Fashion :: Dreaming of Fall
So… I just read a post on facebook from my cousin who lives in Chicago. “61 degrees and having a pumpkin spice latte!” “Whatever.” I wanted to write back. Because back here is Southern California, we are experienceing a major heat wave with an unusual partner for a desert climate…humidity! But the calendar says that fall is on its way and sweaters, jackets, boots and corduroy pants are filling up the stores. As I walk into the absolutely freezing but delicious air-conditioning in a store, I can feel an urge to buy a sweater come upon me despite the sweltering heat outside. I really think the retailers have the…

Fashion :: Tips From A (Former) Shopaholic
The years prior to when my daughter was born were ones where I spent (admittedly) too much time shopping and it was a favorite pastime of mine. I loved to shop for antiques, things for the house, gifts for friends and family, but I was mainly on the search for beautiful clothes. You probably wouldn’t know that by looking at me today, as I don’t really have the time, money or energy to put into this former pastime that I did years ago. But don’t get me wrong, I do enjoy finding quality clothes that can stand the test of time. I still try to find good sales as it is always more fun to get a bargain, but you need to know…
