Medieval Times: A Knight To Remember
The moment you enter a Medieval Times castle you are transported to the 11th century and a time of knights and nobility, surrounded by grand décor and regal characters. I was invited to attend an event at Medieval Times in Buena Park, California to get a behind-the-scenes look at what goes into making Medieval Times the #1 dinner attraction in North America. Hours before the show, the castle was bustling with people preparing for the evening event. We toured the main areas of the castle first where we received an up-close look at the knights and horses practicing their routines in the arena before the show. The team trains daily…

Education :: Studying the 13 Colonies
I started homeschooling my first grader this year and I heard a lot of good things about unit studies. A unit study is picking a topic and including lessons or activities that span multiple subject areas. I researched a few different styles and ended up plotting my own unit study path. You can download my checklist below: Unit Study Development Checklist PDF Filling out the Checklist I use the checklist as a guide – it isn’t necessarily the definitive course, but it helps me plan and, if something else comes up, I’ll add it in. Crafts :: PomPom Fish
There is something really fun about making pompoms. I love to play with the yarn and make different color combinations in different sizes. They are so very cute to decorate a present with or to make a garland. I have even made colorful mobiles. You can leave them as is, or you can give them fins and eyes and turn them into fish. You will need: Yarn card stock scissors felt glue gun googly eyes at the end of the post is the ‘donut’ shape and the fins template to print out Cut 2 ‘donuts’ out of card stock. You want it to be a little stiff, so I would not recommend…

A Craft & Recipe to Celebrate Your Favorite Furry Friends
The only thing that can make a great movie or TV series even better is a four-legged star. Celebrating pets this month, Netflix has pulled together a few of our favorite dogs, cats and even monkeys who hit the big screen. Aside from upping the cute factor, these loyal companions can deliver important lessons on courage, protection and love. I grew up with lots of pets in the house and I think at one time we had over 10 dogs, 3 cats and a couple goldfish living at our place. Granted, eight of those were puppies our Standard Poodle had just given birth to, but I have always enjoyed…

DIY Woven Wall Hanging
This is a wonderful project for adults and kids to try. It is easy and fun and you can find stuff in and around your house to use. My son, Ruan, made a very cute one for his teacher as her holiday gift this year.
