Instagram of the Week: The Getty Museum Garden
The Getty Museum Garden: It might seem hard to believe, but yesterday our family took it’s first trip to The Getty Museum up in Los Angeles. Hard to believe in that it is one of the more well-known and revered museums in our area – but as busy parents (you know how it is) we didn’t make time for this cultural trip. But am I glad we made the effort yesterday! The museum itself is quite amazing and they are currently featuring paintings from The Renaissance Era and the photography of Ray K. In the Spotlight with Rae Dunn
Years ago I purchased an adorable little 3×3 inch plate at a fun shop in Laguna Beach, California. It is just a simple porcelain plate with a picture of a spoon on it but I just love it for it’s simple – yet functional design. It reminds me a bit of the design concept that stems from Japan where less is more and to choose only those items to place in your house that you find beautiful. The newest toy fad will keep the kids occupied for a few months until a newer one comes out, or they just grow tired of it. Teenagers like gift cards so they can choose their own presents. Huge extravaganzas, blockbuster affaires, five-star entertaining…who has the energy or disposable income these days to plan over-the-top parties anymore? And, really, it’s just not necessary if what you care about is bringing friends and family together to celebrate or mark a special occasion. As someone who has done her fair share of events for work and pleasure, my most successful endeavors come from summoning up a little creative MOJO, some DIY spirit, and keeping it simple. Pick an Un-Themed Theme Rather than pick something standard or choose the latest, popular character theme, try to brainstorm a bit about the guests of honor and the people who will be attending. Think…

Gardening Styles : The Desert Garden
The desert is a mysterious beauty. At first glance, one might encounter harsh temperatures and extreme aridity; quite inhabitable to many. Yet, the desert teems with life. With an abundance of more that 400 plant species, the desert blooms in a variety of colors; thus, making the desert an inspiration for landscape designers and gardeners. The desert garden gained in popularity due to its low level of maintenance, eye-catching appeal and hardiness. In addition to flora, landscapers traditionally include water features, gates, benches and arches. Plants may be planted in a variety of ornamental containers or in layered beds to achieve multi-level dimensions. In the garden, paths are constructed…

Basic Bookkeeping Systems For Your Home-Based Business
Business Bookkeeping for Your Home-Based Business (Part 2) As we work our way through the holidays, it’s a good idea to set up your bookkeeping for the coming year. This way, when you start your business activity for the new year you will be all set to keep track of everything. A basic bookkeeping system for a home based business can be as simple as a notebook or as complex as accounting software. It’s best to keep it simple, at least at first. Get a notebook. You can get a spiral bound book so that you don’t lose pages. I would recommend a book with two sections…
