The Importance of Managing Our Stress
Image courtesy of PGeveryday The other day I was looking at the P&Geveryday website as part of this campaign and came across an article that made me want to stop browsing and immediately clicked-through to read it. The post talked about the many signs that your body gives you when you are under stress and tips on how to decompress. I have been thinking a lot about stress lately and how we underestimate the power that stress has over our physical and mental health. Sometimes we don’t realize we are getting too stressed but our body will give us signs that it might be a good idea to slow down or take some time for ourselves. …

Parenting :: Building Self-Esteem Through Sports
Image courtesy of The New Agenda Recently my daughter has become very interested in soccer. This newfound love comes with a big sigh of relief for me because I too, was a soccer player for over 10 years. I remember when this “new sport from England” (that is how it was described by our PE teacher) was introduced to me at the age of 8 while in second grade. I immediately fell in love with the soccer and went on to play for many years. When my daughter played for the first time last fall she didn’t seem particularly interested in it – in fact I practically had…

The APMA “First Steps” Campaign Helps Keep Kids’ Feet Healthy and Happy
Did you know that April was Foot Health Awareness Month? I love how each month there is some type of awareness campaign! But I do like to talk about feet – let me tell you why! When I was in second grade, our neighbor noticed that I was walking pigeon toed and mentioned this to my mother. It just so happened that her husband was a podiatrist so he checked out my feet. He recommended that my mother put saddle shoes on my feet at night (on opposite feet) to help fix this problem. I do remember that it hurt but I am so thankful that the problem was addressed early…

Be The Person You Want Your Daughter To Be
A Kick In My Gut One afternoon, my six-year-old wanted to go outside to play. It was unusually warm outside so I sent her to her room to change into shorts. It seemed like a simple task but when I went to check on my daughter and found her aimlessly searching through her drawers I was impelled to ask, “Why is it so hard to pick out shorts?” Her answer was a kick in my gut. “I don’t like my legs.” She said it so matter-of-factly, I asked her to repeat herself. No, I was not mistaken. The child I have tried so hard to shelter…

Inspirational Mom Samantha Barnes of Raddish
Since my daughter has been little we have talked about the importance of eating well. Having studied nutrition for many years I know how important it is for her to eat a balanced diet. Having said that, she is a connoisseur of sweets. She would be quite satisfied with eating sugary foods at any time of the day! I do have my work cut out for me but something I appreciate are companies that help parents teach their children about healthy eating. Raddish box, a monthly subscription package, provides carefully illustrated family friendly recipe guides, skill cards to help families learn culinary basics, creative activities, list of required groceries for the…
