Whole Foods and PBS Kids Promote Healthy Eating
After my health scare this past year, I was reminded of how important it is to be in good health. It really is the foundation to living a full and vibrant life! Especially if you have young children, you want to teach them the importance of making good food choices to ensure they grow up appreciating and taking care of their own health. So I was happy to hear that Whole Foods Market and PBS Kids have partnered up to offer families tools that support healthy eating. They offer FREE resources, including materials from their newest preschool series, PEG + CAT, which focuses on preschool math and…

Recipes :: Fall Comfort Food
Today is the official start of Fall. I love this time of year – from wearing fall clothes (my obsession with coats can be fully realized) to making hearty meals that can be enjoyed on a cold fall day. I found some healthy yet comforting foods the entire family will enjoy. What’s not to like about Homemade Cheez-Its? Perfect for football season and for your children’s school lunches. Enjoy! Slow-Roasted BLT: Seeing this yummy BLT almost makes me want to eat bread again for the day – but I have taken out gluten so this wouldn’t work. Most of the country is enjoying the fall season and getting geared up for the holidays and some fun! Here in southern California we have been having heat wave after heat wave but that isn’t deterring me for starting to find some fun recipes I can make with my daughter once it cools down a bit. Unfortunately, diet is usually not a priority so supplementation can be ( simple) and essential. We are smoothie drinkers in our house which I appreciated when my kids were young and now again, as they are tweens and teenagers; I can hide things in smoothies! Below are a few supplements I have my kids take regularly. For a vitamin…

Recipes :: 5 Delicious Pumpkin Treats
Next to blueberry pie, I adore pumpkin pie and love this time of year as I have an excuse to eat it all season long! Pumpkin is a very nutritious food and low on the glycemic index (a good idea to watch if you are trying to lose weight). Pumpkin is high in Vitamin E (Alpha Tocopherol), Pantotenic Acid, Magnesium, Phosphorus, Potassium and Copper and a good source of Dietary Fiber, Vitamin A and C, Vitamin K, and Iron and Maganese. Pumpkins, like other members of the squash family, are thought to have originated from North America. The oldest evidence are pumpkin-related seeds dating between 7000 and 5500 BC, were found…

Instagram of the Day :: Blueberry Pie Makes My Heart Sing
Tis the Season for Baking! Oh yes, I LOVE Blueberry pie to no end. That first bite with just a hint of yummy whipped cream really does make my heart sing! This past week I was craving a good homemade blueberry pie so I got all the necessary ingredients (did you know a big bag of blueberries is $9.99? – crazy!) at the store and set about making oatmeal raisin cookies for my husband (his favorite), added some Ghirardelli chocolate chips in some of the batch (for my daughter) and while those were in the oven making the whole house smell wonderful, I searched Google for my favorite blueberry pie recipe. …
