Family :: Staying Fit Together
Image courtesy of Flickr If you are like most busy moms, you are constantly trying to find ways (and time) to exercise. My daughter just had three weeks of Spring Break; having her home was fun but it definitely threw a wrench in my routine. I found myself having to sneak in creative workouts that she wanted to participate in. How did I get her to want to exercise? Simple: I changed the way I talked about physical activity, I made it fun! Have A Dance Party Whether your child is a toddler or a teenager, I can’t think of anyone who doesn’t love dancing?…

Photo courtesy of Flickr A common issue in relationships, and an important one for parents to learn, is communication. Many of today’s modern couples were reared in baby boomer, or post-baby boom, homes, and we see a common theme emerge from this generation of parents. The baby boomers of course were the generation that pushed social change to the forefront. Theirs, in essence, was the first generation to value individual emotional needs. In large part this transformation accompanied civil and women’s rights. I put this in context of communication because a classic and painful issue that thwarts communication is something occasionally termed codependence. Codependence is fairly…

Inexpensive Ways to Update Yourself and Home for Spring
Spring, ahhh… a fresh start. There is a lighter mood to Spring. We trade in our heavy sweaters for a lighter jacket, our boots for perhaps a sandal. Even the smallest of change can make you feel good and it doesn’t have to break the bank. A little something to celebrate the new season. The “Farm to Table” movement aims to help children and adults ditch processed, chemical-laden foods and get back to eating healthy, farm grown foods that our bodies were designed to eat and enjoy. These activities can help educate children about whole, healthy foods in a fun and interactive way. Shipley Nature Center: If you live in or near Huntington Beach, you might be excited to learn about a new children’s program that is being offered by Shipley Nature Center. If you’re not familiar with Shipley, it’s located in Central Park near Goldenwest Street. One of the first things you’ll see when you walk through the gates at Shipley Nature Center is the interpretive center. The front portion of the center is dedicated to informational items and small gifts, but travel to the back room and you’ll find signboards about the history of the surrounding area and the habitats you’ll find out on the trails. There are also plenty…

Enjoy Some Oldies But Goodies on Netflix
These days, it seems that every Thursday our Instagram feeds are filled with baby pictures, awkward family photos and bad, bad haircuts. And we love it. So this month we’re taking a page from the #TBT trend with a trip down memory lane, compiling a list of our favorite blasts from the past. Have fun introducing your brood to your childhood faves, like Zack Morris from Saved by the Bell and Alex Keaton from Family Ties. My family use to call me Mallory from Family Ties for some reason! Ha! Guess I had my head in the clouds as a kid! I plan to try out the…
