Instagram of the Day :: The Importance of Lifelines
Lately, I have been thinking about how to balance my work life (which is mostly done online) with my home life. My daughter “gets” that daddy goes to work and doesn’t see him until he gets home at night but seems to get more upset if mom is working at home while she is here. I do my best to try to balance my work and my time with her and some days work out better than others. There is definitely some mommy guilt felt when I have a deadline to finish and she is wanting to play LEGO’s and I am trying to figure out how best to balance this…

Instagram of the Week :: The Fascinating Ammonite Fossil
Years ago I use to love to look at design magazines to no end. We just did a major de-cluttering in our garage and I had at least two bookcase shelves filled with these décor magazines (from 2004). Sitting on the couch, with a new magazine or Modern Home decor book was like heaven and I use to relish that time. Fast forward to the present, and I am lucky to find time to sit down much less with a magazine! You know how motherhood can be at times – though I wouldn’t change a thing. When I would look through these home décor magazines – mostly Living, Etc. (from the U.K), Elle Décor,…

Instagram of the Day :: Blueberry Pie Makes My Heart Sing
Tis the Season for Baking! Oh yes, I LOVE Blueberry pie to no end. That first bite with just a hint of yummy whipped cream really does make my heart sing! This past week I was craving a good homemade blueberry pie so I got all the necessary ingredients (did you know a big bag of blueberries is $9.99? – crazy!) at the store and set about making oatmeal raisin cookies for my husband (his favorite), added some Ghirardelli chocolate chips in some of the batch (for my daughter) and while those were in the oven making the whole house smell wonderful, I searched Google for my favorite blueberry pie recipe. …

Instagram of the Week :: The Japanese Garden Lantern
While perusing through an estate sale years ago, I found this very cool Japanese Garden Lantern in the garden. It fit in with my whole Japanese/Modern look I like and when I came home I immediately put it in my garden. One of my favorite things to do while living in Japan, which I wish I had done more often, was to scour the antique shops. They were usually small little shops with countless items for sale. As a foreigner I didn’t really know what was valuable or not, but I pick what I loved and don’t think too much about the value of the item. This way I figure, I fill my house…

Instagram of the Week :: Enjoying Beauty in the Simple Things
One of my favorite hobbies before I had my daughter, would be to scour local estate sales looking for abstract art, pottery, and unusual artifacts. And I have to say I have a pretty good eye for finding things that everyone else passed over. But really it comes down to choosing things I really love and enjoy looking at. I am not thinking about whether I found the piece of artwork worth a million dollars like what you see on those antique shows (though that would be nice), but finding pieces I truly appreciate. There was this cool looking abstract black and white rather large painting that reminded me of a Jackson Pollock painting (no such luck) but…

Instagram of the Week :: Enjoying the Moments
One of this weeks Momism of the Day really hit home with me. “We do not remember days; we remember moments,” by Cesare Pavese (1908-1950); who was a Poet and a Novelist. Life is so much about enjoying the moments that make up your life. It is so true isn’t it? That when we think back to our own childhood, we remember moments or snippets of time and hopefully most of them are good memories. Lately, I have been thinking about what types of moments do I want my daughter to remember once she is grown. Though I can’t control what she does look back on with fondness when she’s…
