3 Steps For A More Enjoyable and Affordable Holiday Season!
We have the holidays upon us, so I thought this would be the perfect to talk about holiday spending, planning and sanity. I love to think of the last quarter of the year as a time of celebration and spending extra time with the ones that I love. But it has become such a stressful time of year for American’s. Why? Maybe it is because of the amount of money we are spending to celebrate. From October to New Year’s American’s spend $1.5 trillion, yes, I said trillion dollars on four holidays. That averages out to about $12,000 per household. Wowzer!!! That is a lot of money for four days…

7 Entryway Design Tips and Ideas
1). Landing Spot. This could be a console table, bench or a Japanese Tansu or even dress of drawers. Figure out how much space you have in this area and go from there. 2). Storage. We store our dog’s lease, keys and knick knacks in a felt IKEA basket I found a few months back. At the time I wasn’t sure what I was going to use it for but I love the contrast with the Japanese Tansu. Think about what you plan to use it for and buy the size you need. IKEA has a ton of containers on the cheap! 3). Seating. I found this cute felt…

Curiosity May Be the Single Most Important Trait for Success in School
This week I came across an article that really hit home with me and confirmed my thoughts on the importance of creativity and why parents and educators should encourage this trait. New research published in the journal Pediatric Research in April suggests there may be one simple trait that can help kids learn and succeed in school, regardless of their socioeconomic background. Researchers who looked at the reading and math scores of 6,200 kindergarteners in 2006 and 2007 found that those kids whose parents rated their children’s behavior as most curious did the best in school, regardless of socioeconomic status. The results were consistent for both boys and girls, too. The…

Create an Indoor Oasis
Lately I have been really into gardening. I find it relaxes me and I love seeing my little garden bloom! And now I’ve moved onto bringing more houseplants into our new place. I love having plants in each room and I’ll share with you some pictures of our new plant additions. I almost feel like we need to start giving them names like Earl, our Staghorn Fern which I picked up at an estate sale over 15 years ago. They estimated that “he” was already 40 years old. Being so old, you can see why I thought he deserved a name. I went on a hunt to find some easy-to-care-for houseplants…
