Smart Home Essentials :: The Benefits of Going Solar
Recently we had an AC Repair company come out to see why our 25+ year old air conditioner wasn’t blowing cold air. His initial response was “let’s see if putting some more coolant will fix the problem.” This worked for about one week and after that it was just blowing warm air again. If you live in southern California you know this past summer was a hot one! In fact, we are still having 90 degree weather mid October. The AC repairman came out again and let us know that our hardworking dinosaur of an AC is kaputt. finished. all-washed up. Great – and how much is that going…

The New Information Gap Catching Couples and Singles Off-Guard
Photo courtesy of Flickr Dandelion Moms creator, Melissa Northway, and I have known each other for a few years, having met through our work as storybook app authors who have a soft spot for pirate adventure. When we touched base recently, we learned we have something even more important in common, we’re both committed to protecting our families and having things in order. This year, Melissa lost her dear father and has had her hands full helping her mother sort out the logistics that followed his passing. She shared with me that her father handled most things about her parents’ household, so the learning curve was steep for her Mom.…

Day Six :: Get Your Home Decluttered in 28 Days
Image courtesy of Pinterest. DAY SIX :: Gathering Items We Will Need to Start De-cluttering! Today let’s gather some things we will need so we can start on decluttering toys, books, unfinished projects, etc., that are probably providing some stress in your life – and who needs that?! I realized that I had done this already in my living room and probably had brought over 10 bags to our local Salvation Army. Many of you are at the beginning stages so let’s step back a bit and I’ll share what we did in the rooms we cleared out. We still have three main rooms to tackle so I feel your…

Day Five :: Get Your Home Decluttered in 28 Days
Next in our Home Challenge of de-cluttering and redecorating in 28 days (on a dime) is a space we all spend a lot of time in – our living area. I mentioned that I had some friends come by to help me reorganize this space to give it a more open feeling. If you have a friend or two who could help you reorganize this space ask them for some help! I was really surprised at the suggestions they made and I would not have thought to place chairs, vases, etc., where they moved them to – but it really made a difference to how the room…

Day Four :: Get Your Home Decluttered in 28 Days
Okay, we have tackled the front entryway outside and inside, and our laundry room. But you can take your time and take more than a day or two (or week) to tackle each room. You know what needs to get done in your house so take your time – we are just making suggestions. But summertime is the perfect time to take advantage of the nice weather and get things in your home the way you have visualized (for me it has been months and months!). Especially if the kids are in school (mine went back early) or are in summer camps – this can help free up some of your…

Day Three :: Get Your Home Decluttered in 28 Days
Image courtesy of @Disney August 4th, 2014 “Find inspiration all around you from doorknobs to clocks to everything between” ~ @Disney This is so true! You can find inspiration to redecorate (and declutter) your house just about anywhere! I think that is why we all love Pinterest so much – there is so much to look at and get inspired by. I have a board just for things I dream about having – like a Hans Wegner Wishbone Chair or Eames Lounge Chair! A girl can dream! Today let’s work on the room that we usually don’t like going into – probably because we do a “chore” in there most every day. …
