A Journey to the Heart of Angkor Wat, Cambodia
For my 16th birthday, we explored the incredible and enchanting ruins of Angkor Wat in Siem Reap, Cambodia. Built hundreds and hundreds of years ago, Angkor Wat is the biggest religious complex in the world and has tons of temples, many of which are hidden and swallowed up by the jungle. I had always wanted to visit Angkor Wat and was so excited to be spending my birthday there. Even though we were there for a total of 6 days, we barely scratched the surface and there were so many temples we never got to see. To move around easily through the complex, we hired a tuk tuk driver to…

Easy Tips for Getting Your Pantry Organized
I have been on a mission to get our home decluttered and organized. I would almost say it is bordering on an obsession! When I have a couple hours, you can usually find me going through each room in the house getting rid of stuff we no longer: use, need or want. Two weekends ago I cleared out the Master Bedroom sink area and it felt so good. Three trash bags later I felt so great! Now, I am looking to get our pantry organized and will share pictures once it is done but went on a hunt to find some ideas to try out. Here are some of my…

Parenting :: Creating Family Adventures
A year ahead for the family is all about taking on new adventures. If 2015 is any indication, they could be good, bad or just plain hysterical. Our family has taken a few adventures that have definitely created some lifelong memories. We tend to take day-adventures and one of our favorites that we laugh about all the time is the day we brought our big German Shepherd mix to the dog beach in Huntington. He was so excited he could barely contain himself! In fact, he thought it was a good idea to eat all the sand he could find, run in the water after every dog he came across,…

The Extended Stopover – How To See More of the World Without Spending More!
For many years now, my family has been enjoying the benefits of the EXTENDED STOPOVER and assumed everyone knew about it. But as I have been chatting more and more about our travels recently, I realize that very few people know about this awesome travel benefit. So here it is – one of my best travel tips! What is an extended stopover? I am sure most everyone has had to do a stopover (also known as a flight connection) on their way to their final destination. Your luggage is checked through to your final destination, you exit the aircraft, transfer gates, wait for your next flight, and then off you go to…

The “Game Over” Initiative Empowers Kids to Prevent Distracted Driving
There is a new initiative out that encourages safe driving without any distractions. I make a conscious effort to put my phone away in my purse so I don’t get distracted – it really isn’t worth it! The Connecticut Department of Transportation‘s Governor’s Highway Safety Program and public media producer WGBH have teamed up to launch “Game Over,” a safe driving initiative that empowers kids to prevent distracted driving, with the help of a beloved animated PBS KIDS character, Ruff Ruffman. At any given daylight moment across America, approximately 660,000 drivers are using cell phones or manipulating electronic devices while driving.[1] This first-of-its-kind project hopes to turn the tide on texting and…

Inspirational Mom :: Helen Lao Baxter of Clear Path Solutions
Last year I was invited to attend a media event for Carsmetics, a company that takes the hassle out of car repairs. I was impressed that they were specifically marketing towards women and make it easy for people to get their car repaired without the aggravation. You know how it can be when you get a fender bender and it takes 5 calls just to get a decent quote? I met Helen Lao Baxter at this event as her company, ClearPath Solutions, is working with Carsmetics. I was very impressed with Helen’s go-to attitude and business acumen. You can tell she is a lady that goes after what she wants and manages to run…
