Hearing Health Foundation On Path to Finding Cure for Hearing Loss
As a mom, you want what’s best for your child. But imagine seeing your child suffer from hearing loss, with no cure in sight and unable to comfort them. For many moms this is a real life struggle. In fact, in the US, three out of every 1,000 children are born deaf or hard-of-hearing. My own father battled with hearing loss most of his adult life. He started going deaf in his early twenties until it progressed to almost 90% hearing loss in one ear and 95% in the other ear. He was fortunate to be able to get the cochulear earplant surgery but he was still not able to…

Reflections :: Vulnerability
Image courtesy of Flickr A favorite part of returning to school again, for me, has been the deep and connected conversations with fellow students. They are significant of the bonds we are growing, of our commitment to being seen and seeing one another as the individuals we are. It’s as educational an experience as the classes themselves. There is something about being surrounded by groups of people, whatever the size, that hold and reflect the value and meaning of what is important to you, as well as challenge you to consider just what that means. Particularly in that I am in the situation of pursuing a second career,…

Image Courtesy of Flickr When you work from home, tax time can be a little more complex than just filling out the information from your W-2, especially if you own your own business. There is a lot more to be considered but with a little organization and attention to detail, tax time can be significantly less stressful. Here are a few tips to help you breeze through tax season. Put together a business log. Use a three ring binder, a few clear pocket inserts, and a notebook. Jot down a brief summary of your daily activity in the notebook and put any related receipts into the clear pockets so you…

The Balancing Act of A Work At Home Mom
I am a Work-At-Home-Mom (WAHM). Just being a Stay-At-Home-Mom is a tremendous job, but now that I’ve thrown “Work” into the mix, it’s become an even more tangled web of tightropes to navigate. Some days the chores don’t get done, and sometimes the kids watch a little more television than I’d like, but I know that eventually, we will reap rewards from my work that will enable us to have a fuller, more adventurous life. I started working from home shortly after the birth of my son. I was laid off from my job at a publishing company while I was on maternity, which was really a blessing, as I…

A Time of Reflection and Planning for the New Year
It seems like this year has gone by in a blur. There were so many wonderful things that we celebrated together as a family – like my daughter starting first grade, learning how to read, finishing her first YMCA triathlon for kids and has the medal hanging in her room that she likes to show anyone who comes to visit, to getting a new family dog. We are attempting to teach him that he is a dog and not a human as he so thinks. When I look back at the photo’s I took on my iPhone over the past year, I realize we really did have a great time…
