7 Entryway Design Tips and Ideas
1). Landing Spot. This could be a console table, bench or a Japanese Tansu or even dress of drawers. Figure out how much space you have in this area and go from there. 2). Storage. We store our dog’s lease, keys and knick knacks in a felt IKEA basket I found a few months back. At the time I wasn’t sure what I was going to use it for but I love the contrast with the Japanese Tansu. Think about what you plan to use it for and buy the size you need. IKEA has a ton of containers on the cheap! 3). Seating. I found this cute felt…

Knott’s Berry Farm HANGTIME Roller Coaster Defies Gravity!
HangTime, the first and only dive coaster in California, is now open at Knott’s Berry Farm! HangTime towers 150 feet over the Boardwalk area showcasing a beyond vertical drop, gravity-defying inversions, and mid-air suspensions. This week I was invited to attend the Knott’s Berry Farm HangTime Preview Party on behalf of Belair Mommie because she was too chicken to go. I joke, but after riding both the Xcelerator The Ride® AND the surf-themed rollercoaster HangTime – the first and only dive coaster in California, I can’t blame her. For those who love a thrill ride you are in for a treat! I’ve never experienced a ride like that – ever! It feels…

Curiosity May Be the Single Most Important Trait for Success in School
This week I came across an article that really hit home with me and confirmed my thoughts on the importance of creativity and why parents and educators should encourage this trait. New research published in the journal Pediatric Research in April suggests there may be one simple trait that can help kids learn and succeed in school, regardless of their socioeconomic background. Researchers who looked at the reading and math scores of 6,200 kindergarteners in 2006 and 2007 found that those kids whose parents rated their children’s behavior as most curious did the best in school, regardless of socioeconomic status. The results were consistent for both boys and girls, too. The…

Interview with the cast and filmmakers of Tully
I’ve been a big fan of Charlize Theron for quite some time now so when I was asked to be part of the press junket for Tully of course I was thrilled I’d be in the same room as this talented actress. I mean my new hairdo was inspired by her last movie Atomic Blonde (though I didn’t get to tell her that I hope she didn’t think I was some crazy mom blogger). Kidding aside, I really enjoyed interviewing the cast and filmmakers of this rather touching movie. If you are a mom – you can’t help but be touched by the humanness of the story. Diablo Cody and…

Why Manda Mosher’s ‘Cold Cold Love’ Warms Our Hearts
Manda Mosher is a trend setter when it comes to music and the empowering impact it can make. Manda is a singer, songwriter and one half of the Americana duo CALICO The Band. You’d think she came straight out of Nashville but Manda and the band’s roots are strictly Southern California. In fact, CALICO stands for “California Country” and the music is fresh, vibrant, and real. It’s no surprise that one of Manda’s songs was chosen for Magnolia Pictures ‘Please Stand By,’ a film starring Dakota Fanning, Toni Collette, Alice Eve and Patton Oswald. It’s rare to find a film like Please Stand By, a coming-of-age story about a creative…

Charlize Theron in Tully will pull at your heartstrings – out in theaters May 4th.
Two weeks ago I was invited to a “Moms Night Out” party hosted by Refinery 29 and Focus Features and early screening of Tully – a new comedy from Academy Award®-nominated director Jason Reitman (“Up in the Air”) and Academy Award®-winning screenwriter Diablo Cody (“Juno”). Marlo (Academy Award® winner Charlize Theron) by Focus Features. Charlize plays a mother of three including a newborn and is gifted a night nanny by her brother (Mark Duplass). Hesitant to the extravagance at first, Marlo comes to form a unique bond with the thoughtful, surprising, and sometimes challenging young nanny named Tully (Mackenzie Davis). This is the premise of the movie but oh boy, is it a…
