In Awe of Molly: Parenting a Creative Child
I am in sheer and utter awe of my daughter, Molly. How did one shy, sweet girl turn into such a creative force and passionate young woman? A woman I admire because she’s living “all-in” with unstoppable determination and moxie. And she’s doing it through the quiet power of an introvert. I guess it should come as no surprise because growing up she always remained true to who she was, even when there was pressure from other girls to conform…even when she was so lonely from being left out or unheard. From a very young age, Molly has had a depth of character beyond her years. She has the ability…

Project Kindness :: Homelessness in America
Recently, I have been driving into Los Angeles a few times a month for work. When I am driving through Beverly Hills (ooh la la) or Downtown Los Angeles, I see several homeless people standing near the embankment before the freeway entrance asking for help. Since I am notorious for never carrying cash on me, I always feel bad that I don’t have anything to give them. I have spoken with my daughter about how we don’t know what they have had to face or overcome in their lives, so it is best to help them whenever we can. She is so sweet and seems to understand the concept of giving back as she will always…

Parenting :: Creating Family Adventures
A year ahead for the family is all about taking on new adventures. If 2015 is any indication, they could be good, bad or just plain hysterical. Our family has taken a few adventures that have definitely created some lifelong memories. We tend to take day-adventures and one of our favorites that we laugh about all the time is the day we brought our big German Shepherd mix to the dog beach in Huntington. He was so excited he could barely contain himself! In fact, he thought it was a good idea to eat all the sand he could find, run in the water after every dog he came across,…

The Extended Stopover – How To See More of the World Without Spending More!
For many years now, my family has been enjoying the benefits of the EXTENDED STOPOVER and assumed everyone knew about it. But as I have been chatting more and more about our travels recently, I realize that very few people know about this awesome travel benefit. So here it is – one of my best travel tips! What is an extended stopover? I am sure most everyone has had to do a stopover (also known as a flight connection) on their way to their final destination. Your luggage is checked through to your final destination, you exit the aircraft, transfer gates, wait for your next flight, and then off you go to…

5 Tips for Making Valentine’s Day Extra Special!
My husband and I disagree about Valentine’s Day. He gets overwhelmed (and a bit annoyed) by all the hype surrounding Valentine’s Day and doesn’t get why we need one day to express or show our love to family and friends. He aspires to show this daily and not on just one day. I understand his thinking, but my feeling is to not think you have to go over the top with diamonds, flowers and chocolates (but that’d be nice wouldn’t it?) but, instead think of it as a day of demonstrating how much you care about your family. There is no pressure, just do what you are up to doing, and…

The “Game Over” Initiative Empowers Kids to Prevent Distracted Driving
There is a new initiative out that encourages safe driving without any distractions. I make a conscious effort to put my phone away in my purse so I don’t get distracted – it really isn’t worth it! The Connecticut Department of Transportation‘s Governor’s Highway Safety Program and public media producer WGBH have teamed up to launch “Game Over,” a safe driving initiative that empowers kids to prevent distracted driving, with the help of a beloved animated PBS KIDS character, Ruff Ruffman. At any given daylight moment across America, approximately 660,000 drivers are using cell phones or manipulating electronic devices while driving.[1] This first-of-its-kind project hopes to turn the tide on texting and…
