Live Music at The Gypsy Den in Santa Ana January 17th
By Molly Murphy As a musician, I’m always on the look out for down to earth, fun music venues, and I was thrilled to find The Gypsy Den in Santa Ana, California. Zagat calls it “Early attic decor and full of arty habitues,” and it is the perfect ambiance for my type of modern folk music. I just finished producing a solo album, “In This Hour” by A Million Creatures. Putting myself out into the public and performing my original songs can make me feel so vulnerable and exposed. But the owners of The Gypsy Den are so supportive of musicians and the staff has been warm and inviting…

What’s Hot in Southern California :: The Hollywood Wax Museum
This past week I had a chance to visit the Hollywood Wax Museum that is located on Hollywood Boulevard and has been run by the same family since 1965. I grew up in Orange County but had not taken the time to visit the Hollywood Wax Museum in all my years! What a waste! My daughter, mother-in-law and I made a day out of it and really had so much fun! The drive up from Orange County was surprisingly hassle-free and we found parking easily next to the Hollywood Wax Museum. It is fun to play tourist for the day because you are exposed to sights you might…

DIY :: Fun Decor Ideas for Children’s Rooms
Decorating your children’s room can be so much fun! Especially if they join in and contribute with artwork that you can frame and include in their room. While pregnant, I must have looked at a ton of décor magazines (life before Pinterest) looking for ideas for her nursery. Thank goodness I came across the store and website Room & Board because they were offering some more modern ideas – such as polka dots (you can purchase the decals on Amazon), simple furniture and knitted dolls. I used their catalogue for ideas and went about sourcing a cheaper way to incorporate some of the into her room. You don’t have to break the bank decorating your…

Play :: Using Humor to Deal With Stress
Photo courtesy of Flickr Working at a large company gives you the benefit of having a lot of people to talk to and release some pent up emotions. But I did not want to become the person in the office that everyone ran from when they saw me coming because I was always full of bad news so I turned it into humor. Most of the time I know people were trying to figure out if I was just making up a good yarn or this was the truth about my life. I would begin by telling about a difficult situation at home with immediate or extended family or something…

Ask the Doctor :: Getting Healthy After The Holidays
Image courtesy of Flickr Ask the Doctor: Question: I’m not following my New Year’s ( healthy) resolutions. Any tips on how I can? January is a great time to cozy up on the sofa, with a warming tea, and reflect upon your last year. I’m not a fan of resolutions; however, taking a few moments to find ways to bring a healthier you, can be very rewarding. What made you feel the happiest and healthiest last year? I will ask myself: Did that kale smoothie make me feel more energized? Did it feel good to offer my Human Body Detectives books and apps for free? If yes, then I…

Getting Organized Step by Step
One of the resolutions I made for this year is to get more organized and to get my house decluttered. Our place is not that big and piles of something always make their appearance each day. Whether they be school papers and homework from my daughter, bills and mail on the kitchen countertop, or my work papers on the kitchen table, I feel it is a never ending battle. Plus throw in the equation that I am not one of those Born Organizers as the Flylady tagged as women who just know how to get and keep it all organized. You probably have some of those friends – you…
