Parenting :: Planting Seeds
photo by Stacie Isabella Turk/Ribbonhead.com The child’s thinking is neither more limited nor inferior to that of an adult. It is different. The child thinks with feelings and not with the intellect. That is why communication is so complicated. And speaking with children is a difficult art. ~ Janus Korczak Beliefs are potent seeds that, once planted, grow roots quickly and become part of the long-term fabric of the psyche. Sometimes a child’s beliefs about him/herself get planted without our realizing it and much like being a (fake) redhead (take it from this one,) it is the hardest color to get and the hardest color to get rid…

What’s Hot in Southern California :: The VamPirates Show in Buena Park
This past weekend my husband and I attended the Vampirates show with my daughter and her friend. It might sound scary but they just loved it! They combined pirates and vampires to create the Vampirates show with some amazing stunts, aerial performances, sword fighting and even a Haka dance! Here is a description of the show: Come celebrate at Treasure Bay’s Annual Masquerade Ball with vampire hunters Randolph & Kate. They are there to forewarn the costume-clad guests of the dangers lurking in the haunted Secret Cove. Fashion :: Transpire Summer Dresses into Fall Outfits
Many of you know by now about my obsession with coats (and did I mention boots?). Unfortunately the weather here in southern California is anything but wintery! So I have been wearing my summer dresses and turning them into early fall outfits. Lately, I have been really enjoying wearing dresses for several reasons. 1) they are easy to wear 2) you look pulled together (even if you don’t feel like it) and 3) if you pair it with some boots and a light sweater they can be worn into early fall. I have found some wonderful lightweight dresses at our local resale boutique for next to nothing and plan to add the new…

Blended Family: Create Your Own Holiday Traditions
The Stepfamily Foundation states that more than 50 percent of the families in the United States are either re-coupled or remarried households. No one likes change, but with a blended family, change is inevitable. If you have a blended family, you know how difficult the holidays can be. While it is important to hold on to traditions that are already in place, your blended family should make new holiday traditions together. Mix it Up Dealing with contradicting family rituals and changing visitation schedules can add even more stress to the…
