PBS Kids READY JET GO! Premieres February 15th
Last year at the PBS annual meeting we learned about a new series, READY JET GO! that focuses on astronomy, technology, scientific exploration, innovation and invention. The show premieres this Monday, February 15 on PBS stations nationwide. Seen through the eyes of Jet Propulsion and his family, we see what it is like to be an alien from outer space, the whole while learning about our solar system, how it affects our planet and features live-action interstitials with Jet Propulsion Laboratory astrophysicist Dr. Amy Mainzer, who is also a science curriculum consultant for the series. Designed for kids ages 3-8 but your older kids might like it as well…

Parenting :: Creating Family Adventures
A year ahead for the family is all about taking on new adventures. If 2015 is any indication, they could be good, bad or just plain hysterical. Our family has taken a few adventures that have definitely created some lifelong memories. We tend to take day-adventures and one of our favorites that we laugh about all the time is the day we brought our big German Shepherd mix to the dog beach in Huntington. He was so excited he could barely contain himself! In fact, he thought it was a good idea to eat all the sand he could find, run in the water after every dog he came across,…

The Extended Stopover – How To See More of the World Without Spending More!
For many years now, my family has been enjoying the benefits of the EXTENDED STOPOVER and assumed everyone knew about it. But as I have been chatting more and more about our travels recently, I realize that very few people know about this awesome travel benefit. So here it is – one of my best travel tips! What is an extended stopover? I am sure most everyone has had to do a stopover (also known as a flight connection) on their way to their final destination. Your luggage is checked through to your final destination, you exit the aircraft, transfer gates, wait for your next flight, and then off you go to…

5 Tips for Making Valentine’s Day Extra Special!
My husband and I disagree about Valentine’s Day. He gets overwhelmed (and a bit annoyed) by all the hype surrounding Valentine’s Day and doesn’t get why we need one day to express or show our love to family and friends. He aspires to show this daily and not on just one day. I understand his thinking, but my feeling is to not think you have to go over the top with diamonds, flowers and chocolates (but that’d be nice wouldn’t it?) but, instead think of it as a day of demonstrating how much you care about your family. There is no pressure, just do what you are up to doing, and…

Behind the Scenes at Walt Disney’s Animation Studios
Image found on Pinterest. Standing on the Shoulders…. of The Seven Dwarfs If you’re familiar with the term, “dwarves standing on the shoulders of giants” then you would understand the impact that Disney’s “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” (1937) had on the company upon it’s release. Mind you, prior to the release of “Snow White,” Disney’s animation was exactly what it was: black and white, slapstick, very little speaking roles and only a few minutes long. But the film, upon release, showcased the progress and vision the company had through use of technology well beyond its contemporaries. It also proved that there was, indeed, an audience for a…

Recipe :: Easy and Healthy Mexican Salad Bar
One of my favorite meals is a really delicious salad. In fact, most days I could just eat a salad, but with all the trimmings! Though some days I am in the mood for something hearty (like meatloaf) – but that’s another recipe post! My two favorite salads are Nicose and Mexican-style salads. Our family is really making an effort to eat at home more these days because frankly, it just tastes better and much more economical! This recipe is for those days when time is short and dinner is coming up! On our way out of the theater the other night I picked up a Power Plate at Sharkey’s that included 10 oz. of natural…
