Her First and Won’t be Her Last
This time last year I was on night 1 of at least 4 or 5 nights of absolutely no sleep. This time tomorrow I was desperately trying to look into my 5 week old baby girl’s eyes still hoping for a miraculous miracle. This time the following day I was handing my tiny baby to a surgeon and literally collapsing and choking in fear… This time the day after I was learning to put in and care for a minuscule contact and instructed to patch my daughter’s “good eye” half her waking hours – Awesome to decipher for a newborn right? This time last year was just filled with the unknown… Would the surgery be…

One of his difficulties was sitting in one place long enough to eat his meal, read a story, or sit for circle time. I spoke to an occupational therapist who recommended a vibrating mat to help with this. I bought one for my son, and he instantly loved the sensations! But one day, I wanted to take him to our local library for storytelling, and though the mat would…

Special Needs Parenting: Uncoventional Choices and Unconditional Love
Please allow me to introduce myself. I am a soon-to-be-single mother of two special needs children.. I love duct-tape, MacGyver and was born thinking outside the box. I am an independent thinker who often got in trouble in school and college for speaking my mind and not following the crowd. As far as I’m concerned – that qualifies me to be one great special needs mother. Not quite three months ago, I made an irrational, illogical and emotionally-based decision that I had been struggling with for over a year. My bipolar/add/LHON/anxiety/pediatric migraines with aura daughter (Bipolar Girl) was deeply depressed and unresponsive to medication, counseling, social events/play dates, etc. She…
