    August 25, 2015 /

BACK TO SCHOOL: TOP TIPS TO KEEP YOUR KIDS HEALTHY   Back to school is a bittersweet time: the sadness of letting go of the carefree summer days weaved in with the excitement to getting back into a routine. I usually suggest to families to begin a structured routine a few weeks before school begins, for example, getting to bed a little earlier, eating meals at regular times, and eating more whole colorful foods that are packed with nutrients to support the body. Below are a few tips…

    August 20, 2015 /

We are right in the midst of summer and boy, is it hot here!  We have been getting record breaking heat wave after heat wave on top of it being unusually humid.  Normally that humidity is saved for the south but we have been getting some strange tropical weather lately.  That being said, how do we stay cool and look good?  Here are some of my favorite summer essentials that any girl needs in her closet!   A Wood Watch Yes, you heard me right, a wood watch from JORD is the latest fashion trend.  I absolutely adore mine and get more compliments on it that about any piece of jewelry…

8 Must-Have Homework Helpers for Students

    August 20, 2015 /

Our students are challenged today with plenty of homework. As parents we like to think we have all the answers. But the truth is, sometimes we don’t. So when it comes time to study it’s nice to have a few reference books on hand that are easy to read and navigate while still offering a ton of information. Here is a list of some of my favorite reference books for students: The Illustrated Dictionary – The perfect dictionary for ages 6 and up with 288 pages and over 1000 illustrations. The Illustrated Dictionary features a user’s guide, parts of speech and their roles in forming sentences, hints and guidelines for…

Interview with National Geographic Photographer Annie Griffiths

    August 19, 2015 /

Today I had a chance to speak to National Geographic Photographer Annie Griffiths on a conference call along with other National Geographic Kids Insiders.  Annie has my dream job!  I am not kidding!  I remember watching the movie Bridges of Madison County years ago and thought that Clint Eastwood’s character had about the best job as he played a traveling National Geographic Photographer.  It seem so magical traveling from place to place documenting what you see with photographs!     Well, Annie has this dream job!  She has been to over 150 countries, founded The Ripple Effect Images, a nonprofit that helps poor women and also documents programs around the world that empower women and girls.  She…

Dwell :: House Tour in Orange County

    August 18, 2015 /

We had a chance to take a tour of the lovely Justine’s home.  She and her family moved into this neighborhood about two years ago but says she is still looking to do more things in the house.  I think it looks fabulous and love all the little touches that just say home.  You can tell a lot of thought went into the design of the home while keeping in mind her two adorable twins and husband.  Actually, she said her husband, Mike, had some input into the home décor, like the cool Buddha statue in the living room and superhero books in their new built-in, but most of the design comes…
