4 Summer Science Projects to do with the Kids
We are well into summer now, but that doesn’t mean we’ve stopped learning. In fact we’re still doing quite a lot – I just don’t call it “school”. Instead I just ask the kids if they want to do an activity with mommy and they’re sold. Science is the favorite subject in my house so we are doing a lot of mini-experiments and crafty projects that allow me to slip some scientific education into the day. We’ve dyed celery, made a seashell display box, and skinned an onion to see plant cells. Today we started a compost experiment using one of the small plastic fruit containers and some of the…

What’s Hot in Southern California :: The Irvine Regional Park
One of the first things I wanted to do when my daughter was first born was take her to the Irvine Regional Park pumpkin patch. We did go when she was only four months old and I was in heaven! See, I had dreamed about doing this with my yet unborn child. While we were dreaming of having a child my mind would go to “I can’t wait to take her to the pumpkin patch!” So it was super exciting for me to take her to the gorgeous Irvine Park years ago. It is now a family tradition and we try to visit every major holiday plus during vacations as there is…

A Grand Ole Cake on the 4th of July!
The Fourth of July is a huge deal in our household. It’s probably right up there with Thanksgiving and Halloween. About two months ago, my husband, who never ever emails me, sent me a cake recipe for the 4th of July. He never ever asks me for anything, so this was a big deal. Needless to say, I was up for the challenge. My husband went so far as emailing the recipe for it, so I just had to do it. He requested for an American Flag cake, one which upon slicing, are slices of Old Glory herself! Here’s a link to the recipe care of Food52.com: https://food52.com/recipes/28811-american-flag-cake Due to…

How a Travel Journal Became My Daughter’s Greatest Treasure
Have you ever bought a journal and promised yourself to write in it EVERYDAY, only to have days, weeks, and months go by without even opening it? Are you one of those people who has a library of partly filled beautiful journals gathering dust on a shelf? If so, then like you, I have always had a fascination with journals – especially ones I bring on a trip with great intentions to fill it with vivid details of a fabulous adventure. Yet, after the first few days of beautifully written journal entries, I begin to lose interest and think, “Oh, I’ll just write in it later.” I write in the…

Movie Review :: Jurassic World is the best one yet!
Our whole family went to see Jurassic World opening weekend at our local theater and boy, was it a packed house! It seems like there are a lot of fans of this fun movie franchise – and for good reason! Steven Spielberg returns to executive produce the long-awaited next installment of his groundbreaking Jurassic series, starring Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard. First off, I must admit I have a bit of a celebrity crush on Chris Pratt. I really loved him as Starlord in Guardians of the Galaxy, thought he always stole the scenes in Parks and Recreation and he definitely is fun to watch in Jurassic World. “Twenty-two…

Recipes :: Quick & Simple July Fourth Treats
A Patriotic Ice Cream Sandwich: The Fourth of July is one of my favorite holidays because we can just sit back and enjoy each other with no pressure of gift-giving (yes, this can be a little stressful don’t you think?). We usually spend the day at the pool and eat bits and pieces all day long. You know how it is! This year I want to make a couple patriotic treats to bring to the pool and these are some simple but delicious treats that just about anyone can make. Like I said, July 4th is a no-pressure holiday so let’s not stress too much about the food! Enjoy yourselves! These…
