Parenting :: Make Music a Daily Activity for Children

    December 8, 2014 /

Make Music a Daily Activity for Children Music has played an important role in our culture for so long that musicality is part of our anthropological and genetic history. Ethnomusicology is the study of folk music throughout time and it relates to the way we pass down music from generation to generation. There is a large body of evidence that says that, for children, music stimulates brain processes that enhance math and language skills, increase motor coordination and create bonding moments between parent and child. Most importantly, teaching music to children is fun.   Live vs. Electronic Musicians and music educators have long debated the benefits of live versus…

What’s Hot in Southern California :: Knott’s Merry Farm

    December 5, 2014 /

Our family had a chance to check out Knott’s Merry Farm this month and it reminded me of how much fun Knott’s is during the holiday season.  The entire theme park is decorated in Christmas cheer and you can’t help but noticing all the little additions throughout the park.  It really does get you in the spirit of the holidays!  Plus they are known for all of their amazing rides and my daughter absolutely loves roller coasters so we could be found running from ride to ride throughout the park.  I recommend to do this before you eat lots of sweets!  Note to self for next time!     The largest Christmas Tree…

Dwell :: TIDY to the Rescue!

    December 3, 2014 /

A few weeks back I received an adorable mailer from a new company called TIDY.  I love this concept and just had to find out more about this cleaning service that provides house cleaning options for busy families.  For example, if you want a cleaning person to only tidy up one or two areas in your house before your next party – they will do that for only $40.  I like that the services can range from a quick pick up to a very intense top-to-bottom cleaning service where everything in your home is dusted off, cleaned up and sparkly when you come home. I wanted to find out…

How Tidying Up Can Change Your Life

    December 1, 2014 /

This post contains sponsored content.   While living and working in Japan years ago,  I was introduced to the concept of Wabi Sabi which represents a comprehensive Japanese world view or aesthetic centered on the acceptance of transience and imperfection. The spirit of Wabi Sabi is based on a simple set of ideals adopted from nature such that it is imperfect, impermanent, and incomplete.  Wabi Sabi implies a modesty of soul that allows one to see and appreciate the simple and the common. In this spirit, I have worked at bringing in my home things that make me happy when I look at them.  I enjoy having scented candles lit even during…
