Inexpensive Ways to Update Yourself and Home for Spring
Spring, ahhh… a fresh start. There is a lighter mood to Spring. We trade in our heavy sweaters for a lighter jacket, our boots for perhaps a sandal. Even the smallest of change can make you feel good and it doesn’t have to break the bank. A little something to celebrate the new season. It can be as small as a new nail polish shade, a new lipstick or changes around your home. There are a few ways that I like to do this. image courtesy of pinterest Brighten Up the Place With Flowers: Nothing says Spring like flowers, right? I love love love flowers in my home and…

DIY Structured Flower Garden
It’s spring. The air is fresh and warm. All is green. And you hear the call to clean up, freshen up and add some color to your outdoor living area. You bought a beautiful new garden set for entertaining… so out with the old. Hold on now! Before you toss out that perfectly good piece of furniture (yes it’s faded, tattered and worn), step back and let your imagination and creative juices flow. What can you do to repurpose the item for another use? For example, our mosaic stone patio tabletop showed its age with cracked and broken edges. My husband was eager to get rid of it because it…

The Adventures of Ash and Ollie eBook Teaches Children about Screen Time
Fingerprint Play recently partnered with yummico which is founded by the creator of the TV series, ‘Blue’s Clues,’ and launched Ash and Ollie, ScreenTime – an interactive ebook that helps families navigate (in a fun manner) the complex world of screen time balance and limits. We had a chance to review ScreenTime: The Adventures of Ash and Ollie. This eBook helps teach children about screen time – whether it be on the TV, iPad, game console or internet. The story starts off with Ash and Ollie waking up their dad with the request to play a game on his iPad. Gosh, this sounds familiar! The timer is set to 30 minutes…

How to Encourage Good Reading Habits in Children
Image found on Flickr Celebrate Reading During National Library Week: Those of you who like to celebrate the many holidays this month such as April Fool’s Day, Easter and of course National Chocolate Mousse Day, you might be interested to know its National Library Week! As an avid Kindle reader, I can’t even tell you the last time I really spent time in a library. As a kid my mom used to take me to the library all the time, and it was always a great feeling finding new stories to experience, or just to check out a magazine or video. (Remember the days of VHS?) Recently, I read an…

Disney’s The Pirate Fairy Review and Giveaway
We were so excited to see the new Disney Pirate Fairy movie this past week and ran out and purchased a copy at our local Walmart, got our popcorn and peanut MM’s and watched it three times in a row that day! Hey, I figured we were on spring break so why not?! I really like that they have a pirate fairy as the main character and that we learn about the beginnings of Captain Hook, the alligator who relentlessly chases Capt. Hook, and why does their pirate ship float? The Pirate Fairy is a 3D computer-animated fantasy film directed by Peggy Holmes and is the fifth film…

Parenting :: Taking Your Kids Seriously
Photo courtesy of Flickr I have a 4 year old boy and a 2 year old girl. They are the lights of my life, the joy to my day, and the cause of every graying hair and worry wrinkle on my face. My son is in preschool and this is all new to us; the homework, projects, bake sales, volunteer hours, & class parties. We are just at the beginning of the schooling experience and I am overwhelmed with the adjustment of keeping a schedule, remembering where his book bag is, making sure clothes are laid out every school night. I feel like my husband and I have done a pretty good job…
