Our Rocky Mountain Family Adventure: Part II

    March 8, 2014 /

Looking to send a postcard with a spectacular mountain range, a glacier, or wild animals on it? Then the town of Jasper, located in the heart of Canada’s Rocky Mountains, is the destination for you. Last summer we flew into Calgary and stuffed as much luggage as is humanly possible into a rental car. We strapped three children in the back seat (aged 14, 10, and 8) and headed northwest—256 miles to be exact. The drive along the way was an adventure in itself. Our first stop was in Banff. Our second stop en route to the town of Jasper was the Columbia Icefield. Located in Jasper National Park (one…

    March 7, 2014 /

Image courtesy of Flickr   Soon you can finally loose your heavy coat and slip into something cute and light.  You don’t have to wear your winter boots and that furry coat.  A spring wardrobe is a welcoming of many things like makeup, clothes, sunglasses, jewelry and accessories. You want it? You’ll find it there in spring fashion. If you want to keep up with the tides of style, there is no shortage of inspiration.  For the spring of 2014, we will zone in on those abstract prints, those bright colors, dewy makeup and accessories.  We saw the coming of slim silhouettes, peplum dresses that stuck out in bright colors…

Tax Tips for Working At Home

    March 5, 2014 /

Image Courtesy of Flickr When you work from home, tax time can be a little more complex than just filling out the information from your W-2, especially if you own your own business. There is a lot more to be considered but with a little organization and attention to detail, tax time can be significantly less stressful. Here are a few tips to help you breeze through tax season. Put together a business log. Use a three ring binder, a few clear pocket inserts, and a notebook. Jot down a brief summary of your daily activity in the notebook and put any related receipts into the clear pockets so you…

It’s Not You. It’s Your Hormones!

    March 4, 2014 /

Image courtesy of Flickr   It is astounding how many women across America live with symptoms of hormone deficiency and have accepted it as a way of life. They go through each day struggling to make it through with minimal energy and fatigue. Their limited energy is further consumed with random unexpected waves of “hot flashes” as if their head was suddenly placed in a hot oven. Trying to fit into an old pair of jeans is a daily battle because of an unexpected weight gain that does not improve regardless of diet or exercise. To make matters worse there is constant irritability and a labile mood that puts…

Ask the Doctor :: Are there any foods that will help with my complexion?

    March 4, 2014 /

Image courtesy of Flickr Ask the Doctor: Question: I am noticing that my skin is dull and dry and was wondering what foods might help brighten it up some. Many people only think about their skin during the warm sunny months, but skin care is year round. The most important thing to remember is applying a good quality sunscreen everyday and second, indulging taste buds in a few nutrient-rich and skin healthy foods. Here they are my top 3 ones: 1) Lemons Begin each day with squeezing a half to full lemon in a full glass of water. It is refreshing, tasty, and packed with vitamin C that will not…

How to Get Kids to Eat More Greens

    March 3, 2014 /

Image courtesy of Flickr   Eating vegetables provides children with a great deal of health benefits as it gives them the vitamins and minerals they need for growth and development. Unfortunately, getting children to eat their veggies can be an adventure in and of itself. How can you get your children to eat more greens without causing mealtime mayhem? 1. Grow a Garden – A lot of children take a great deal of pride in growing their own food goods. When it comes to eating fresh and clean, you can’t beat growing your own fruits and vegetables. If you make a big deal about how much fun the garden process is,…
