Academy Award®winner Robert Redford stars in All Is Lost, an open-water thriller about one man’s battle for survival against the elements after his sailboat is destroyed at sea. But with the sun unrelenting, sharks circling and his meager supplies dwindling, the ever-resourceful sailor soon finds himself staring his mortality in the face. Today is the day my daughter and I plan to figure out the foods, last minute decorations and activities we will have at our upcoming Halloween party. We are planning on creating our scary skeleton guy today (just stuff your husband’s pants, an old hooded sweatshirt, and shoes with newspaper and put a skull on top), and our scavenger hunt planned out. But I wanted to find some fun finger foods for the adults and kids who will be joining us can enjoy and get a kick out of. Check out the fun and sometimes spooky appetizers that will surely be a hit! 7 Layer Bean Dip: This…

Parenting :: Planting Seeds
photo by Stacie Isabella Turk/Ribbonhead.com The child’s thinking is neither more limited nor inferior to that of an adult. It is different. The child thinks with feelings and not with the intellect. That is why communication is so complicated. And speaking with children is a difficult art. ~ Janus Korczak Beliefs are potent seeds that, once planted, grow roots quickly and become part of the long-term fabric of the psyche. What’s Hot in Southern California :: The VamPirates Show in Buena Park
This past weekend my husband and I attended the Vampirates show with my daughter and her friend. It might sound scary but they just loved it! They combined pirates and vampires to create the Vampirates show with some amazing stunts, aerial performances, sword fighting and even a Haka dance! Here is a description of the show: Come celebrate at Treasure Bay’s Annual Masquerade Ball with vampire hunters Randolph & Kate. They are there to forewarn the costume-clad guests of the dangers lurking in the haunted Secret Cove. Unfortunately, their cries of despair go unheard, as Captain Sebastian the Black and his horde of Vampire Pirates crash the Ball and…

Reflections :: Owning our Emotional Lives
Recently I shared the following quote by Barbara Stevens Sullivan on Facebook: “Our resistance to a feminine orientation is tremendous. We are taught in every setting that we should be in control of our lives and that our lives will proceed in positive directions if we control them properly. We are urged to refuse to give in to depression and despair, to think positively. The consequence of this attitude is not an increasingly widespread incidence of happiness, it is rather a situation in which people feel guilty about their depression and despair, exacerbating their pain by struggling against the legitimate suffering that life involves and that, when submitted to, ultimately…
