Kids :: Enjoy Summer with the BabbaBox
Have you ever woken up on summer morning, and asked “What am I going to do with my kids today”? Summer break is an amazing time of exploration, growth and bonding for you and yours. But it can also be taxing (ok, even maddening) for parents as we are faced with keeping our kids occupied all day with fun, enriching activities and picking up where school left off. As my daughter is still in kindergarten and only goes to school a few hours each day – there are some days when I ask myself what am I going to do today? My daughter loves to do crafts and science projects so we make frequent…

The Fragrance of Spring :: The Rose
“What’s in a name? That which we call a rose, by any other name would smell as sweet”. ~ Juliet This past week, I led my Junior Master Gardener class down a path at our local garden center. The flowers were in bloom, the breeze blew gently and the fragrance of spring wafted through the air. Immediately, one wonderfully potent scent stood out among all the rest – the rose. Its tender yet sweet, intoxicating fragrance enthralled my senses and made me take pause. The rose, is my personal favorite in the garden. Its ability to add height, fragrance, dimension, color and even pluck the senses makes it a perfect…

Musings :: How Becoming a Mother Changed Me
The journey to become a mom was not an easy one for my husband and I. It wasn’t until the 9/11 tragedy that I woke up and realized how life can be so uncertain and that not only did I want to get married (had been with my now-husband for 7 years), but I also wanted to have children. Yes, it was 9/11 as well as a quote I read in an article that completely altered my life. I was reading a magazine article that was written by a playwright who talked about all these experiences she had in life, traveling the world, dinners at castles, etc., but one thing she wanted more…

PBS Kids WordGirl vs. The Energy Monster Review and Giveaway
We are big fans of the PBS Kids Emmy Award-Winning WordGirl and just love her side kick, Huggy Face. My daughter and I will watch it together and I like that she will learn new words and is taught how to use them in sentences. She is always asking me the meaning of words and I think part of this curiosity can be traced back to this program. PBS Kids is releasing “WORDGIRL VS. THE ENERGY MONSTER” on DVD May 14th. “WordGirl®” follows the life and super hero adventures of WordGirl as she fights crime and enriches vocabulary usage. In this new DVD, which includes three fun-filled learning adventures, WordGirl and her sidekick…

Tips to Help Make Moving Simplier
Moving Tips: Moving can be so stressful that many of us wish that moving was as simple as packing the kids in the car and hitting the road to their new home. However, as we all know, moving is a complicated process, and adding kids to the mix can mean more boxes, more stress and more to-dos. If you take some steps to organize pre-move it will help to make the move that much less stressful. A few years back I came across The Flylady who has some great tips on keeping the house up as well as tips on how to have a stress-free (well almost stress-free) move. You can…

Inspirational Mom: Angela Santomero, Creator of Super Why
My daughter and I have been watching Super Why since she was about three years old. I love how educational the program is with the Super Readers characters as well as the catchy music. So when I had a chance to speak to the mastermind behind this show as well as Blues Clues and the new Daniel Tigers neighborhood – I jumped at the chance. It is always interesting in hear how people started out in their respective industries. Angela Santomero is the creator of all three shows and is the Founding Partner and Chief Creative Officer of Out of the Blue Enterprises LLC. She also created and hosts a new…
