Instagram of the Week: Paving Your Own Path
In this time of having the ability to always be “on” and “connected” via iPhone, iPad or computer, it can be tough to decompress and slow down! Part of taking care of others involves the important step of taking care of oneself and knowing when it is time to relax and reboot. Last weekend we enjoyed our time together as a family but I made sure to take a little time out for myself and took a walk along the beach alone. There is something about the ocean that is just so soothing! I took several pictures and one of my favorites is of the little guy you see above walking along the shoreline. He…

Inspirational Mom Jonelle Krier of Assessables
You know when you come across a product and think “why didn’t I think of that” or “why didn’t someone think of this sooner?” is what I thought when I saw the Assessables Umbilical Bodysuit that Registered Nurse Jonelle Krier invented. Her company is a 2012 HuggiesMom Inspired Grant and she tells us more about why she created this important piece of clothing every mother should be given at the hospital to take home with them. Health Question: Nourishing Your Sluggish Thyroid
Ask The Doctor: By Dr. Heather Manley Question: What can you do to support thyroid health. I have Hashimoto’s disease, but thyroid hormones are in the normal range. TSH was high (4.58, but brought down to 2.1), but has improved with a whole food diet. Any suggestions? Your thyroid gland controls your metabolism; therefore, if you are gaining weigh, feeling tired and cold, your thyroid gland might be slowing down thus effecting your metabolism. There are certain vitamins and minerals that the thyroid needs to function optimally and incorporating these into your daily diet may make a profound difference in your overall health. However, if you suspect that you…

Family: Enjoy a Leprechaun Hunt on St. Patrick’s Day
Create Your Own Leprechaun Hunt: St. Patrick’s Day is a fun day to celebrate all things green which includes leprechauns. Last year my daughter’s pre-school teacher had used washable green paint and put little footprints around the classroom. When the kids arrived at school, they couldn’t believe that a little leprechaun had visited their school during the night. She explained that he was a bit naughty as he messed the room up – turning over chairs, leaving some papers on the floor, footprints on the floor – but he also left some gold chocolate coins for them. This year we plan to do a Leprechaun Hunt in our neighborhood and…
