Family :: The Importance of Spending Downtime Together

    December 1, 2014 /

Photo courtesy of Flickr   The holidays can be a stressful time for most people – with all the shopping, dinners, activities, parties, school functions – you name it, most of us are running around from place to place trying to take it all in.  So when the weekends come around, I really value some downtime with the family.  Our usual attire around the house are sweats.  I wish I could say that if you rang my doorbell on the weekends, I would come to the door with my hair and makeup all done – but reality is… we are probably in our sweats chilling!  That is why when I was…

Smart Home Essentials :: The Benefits of Going Solar

    October 20, 2014 /

Recently we had an AC Repair company come out to see why our 25+ year old air conditioner wasn’t blowing cold air.  His initial response was “let’s see if putting some more coolant will fix the problem.” This worked for about one week and after that it was just blowing warm air again.  If you live in southern California you know this past summer was a hot one!  In fact, we are still having 90 degree weather mid October.   The AC repairman came out again and let us know that our hardworking dinosaur of an AC is kaputt. finished. all-washed up.  Great – and how much is that going…

Taste of Nature Bars are a Healthy Snack for Kids and Moms

    August 16, 2014 /

According to a recent national survey conducted by Kelton and sponsored by Taste of Nature, nearly all (98%) Americans snack, but nine in ten (85%) admit they find healthy snacking to be difficult. Americans struggle to find a balance between what tastes good and what’s good for them. Taste is the top consideration when making a snack choice (73%), which is more important than convenience (54%) or accessibility (35%). What’s more, half (50%) say that healthy snacking is so difficult because it is hard to find a healthy snack that tastes good. Why I Joined the Clever Girls “Being Fierce” Campaign

    October 14, 2013 /

The Clever Girls network is promoting a Being Fierce campaign that encourages women to talk about a time in their life when they found they had to step up and be fierce.  I had a chance to interview Sheila Bernus Dowd, one of the cofounders of Clever Girls, about the time she had to be fierce and strong when battling breast cancer.  She and the rest of the crew at Clever Girls recognize and celebrate these stories, and to ensure women and girls are always empowered to be Fierce, Clever Girls Collective is proud to announce The Fierce Fund, a corporate advised fund of Silicon Valley Community Foundation. In 2013, The…
