    40/Forty: Celebrating Women

    April 10, 2018 /

    Dandelion Moms art contributor, Erna van Dyk has been busy!      By Lilli LaBuen Gillen Years ago, Erna bravely uprooted her life as she knew it in South Africa and moved to Orange County in Southern California to support her husband’s goals. Always the optimist, she successfully built a new life, raising her son in a new country, making new friends, and switching careers from graphic design and marketing to doing what she loves: teaching art and helping others build a strong foundation in painting and multimedia. Many locals know her as an amazing and dedicated art teacher. Raising a family, teaching art, building a business of her own, life…

        It sure does seem like yesterday that we launched dandelion moms in August 2012!  So much has happened in four years and we have appreciated all the feedback, comments and stories you all have shared with us.  It always makes my day when I hear from another mom that an article we posted helped her out in some way or she was inspired to go after a dream she has put on hold.  It really means the world to us over at dandelion moms!     And we couldn’t do it without our fantastic contributors!  From Charly James of One Appy Mama who is our right-hand dandelion and…

    Gorgeous DIY Succulent Pumpkin Planters

    November 17, 2016 /

          I honestly love pumpkin season, the smells and the flavors. This cute pumpkin succulent arrangement immediately turns your house into fall season. It also makes a great gift. As soon as the pumpkin starts to rot, simply plant it in your garden. If you need to pot it, just gently pull of the succulents and plant them in your favorite pot.     I like to have a selection of different succulents. Definitely look for the little baby flower like succulents but also look for longer ‘flatter’ plants. Spread them out and sort them so you can clearly see what you have.     I use moss…

    Crafts :: Super Cute DIY Flower Box

    May 10, 2016 /

      I love to give handmade gifts and if I end up buying gifts then the wrapping should have a handmade touch. I will show you how I transformed this ordinary papermache box found at Michaels into a super cute box, pretty enough that you will want to keep it. Materials needed: a box of your size and liking some silk or paper flowers and ribbon hot glue gun and scissors acrylic paint old cookie sheet or similar flat service (i don’t use my cookie sheet in the kitchen anymore)   I had my box and an assortment of flowers to choose from: This was my lid.  I wanted a flower that…

    Perfect Valentine’s Day Gift :: DIY Clay Heart Dish

    January 30, 2016 /

    February is the month of love. Even though I don’t go over the top for Valentine’s Day,  I like to write little love notes and make cute easy crafts for the guys in my house so they feel extra special. I love to use clay for a lot of my projects and crafts and when I involve my son, 3D art is way more fun for him. Clay is also his favorite medium to play with. Sculpey clay is so fun with all the wonderful colors you can pick from so you don’t even have to paint. And as a bonus it is pretty durable after you baked it in your own oven. You…

    Crafts :: The Giving Plate

    November 18, 2015 /

    Thanksgiving is a week away and to avoid last minute shopping for gifts I am baking cookies to fill my giving plates. I love this original handmade gift for sharing life’s special moments with those closest to your heart. With the holiday season upon us, the Giving Plate is perfect for creating your own traditions while reflecting on the meaning of the special time you spend with those you love. Take turns with the Giving Plate—give it to Mom or Grandma even a friend—and maybe you will receive it back, a special reminder of one another. You will need: Craftsmart paint pens (ideal for wood, plastic, metal and glass) I found…
