A Southern Dish: Shrimp and Grits
This recipe comes from the talented Bobby Flay but we did tweak it a bit. I absolutely love Southern food and grits is right up there as my top favorite foods! I grew up eating grits with eggs and bacon and love when I find them served here in southern California restaurants, which unfortunately isn’t very often. We made this in under 45 minutes – but this if prep and cooking time. And throw in 2 minutes to eat it! Just kidding. But it really is so good it is hard to refrain from eating too quickly. Here is what you’ll need: 4 cups of water salt and…

Three Less Conventional Resources for Healthy Recipes
Three Less Conventional Resources for Healthy Recipes Keeping your family well-fed with delicious meals requires some serious dedication. A lot of moms turn to their cookbooks or their Pinterest boards for menu ideas. While these can be terrific resources, it is common to find yourself going back to the same types of recipes time and again. Boredom with your homemade meals can lead you to impulsively purchase fast food, wrecking your budget and your balanced diet. In this situation, you need to get creative. Instead of opting for takeout when the tedium of the same old dishes becomes overwhelming, try looking for new recipes in unusual places. Check the…

Recipe :: Easy and Healthy Mexican Salad Bar
One of my favorite meals is a really delicious salad. In fact, most days I could just eat a salad, but with all the trimmings! Our family is really making an effort to eat at home more these days because frankly, it just tastes better and much more economical! This recipe is for those days when time is short and dinner is coming up! On our way out of the theater the other night I picked up a Power Plate at Sharkey’s that included 10 oz. of natural…

Meet Vivian Howard from “A Chef’s Life”
Have you ever dreamed of selling everything and moving to a slower-paced town? I have to be honest, we have entertained that idea a couple times! It always gets back to what type of work would we do! I’d love to have a farm where we grow our own food – but let’s be realistic here, I don’t know if I am cut out for that. But one woman, Chef Vivian Howard surely is! I love her story and think you will too – along with the tasty okra recipe she shared with us! PBS’s A Chef’s Life, the character-driven docu-series that takes viewers inside the life and kitchen of Chef Vivian Howard and her two restaurants…

5 New Year’s Resolutions I’m Making for My Kids
Image courtesy of Flickr The last few months I’ve been consumed by work as the contributing author for a Los Angeles relocation guide. Chunks of time throughout the day and night have been spent writing a book, driving around Los Angeles taking photos of neighborhoods, and updating contact information and weblinks. In the process, my kids have seen some parts of LA that we may not have explored otherwise. But they’ve also spent a lot of time in the car, and a lot of time playing second fiddle to this project. I’m looking forward to getting back to a more family-focused lifestyle, and to do that, I’ve chosen 5…
