What’s Hot in Southern California :: The Vampirates Show Giveaway!

    October 10, 2013 /

This weekend we plan to attend the Vampirates Show put on by the crew at the Pirates Dinner Adventure in Buena Park.  I can’t wait to see the show since we absolutely loved the Pirates Dinner Adventure and had such a great time!  You can read about the show and what all they offer in my post here. In the Vampirates Show – they have combined two of our favorites – pirates and vampires. I spoke to the woman in charge of marketing and she said “There is actually no fake blood or anything gory at all. The actors do wear stage makeup and have fake teeth but, that is…

    Labor Day Celebration Recipe Ideas

    September 1, 2013 /

For most Americans, Labor Day weekend is filled with football, food and fun.  It is a day of rest and spending time with friends and family.  In the US, Labor Day, is a creation of the labor movement and is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of American workers. It constitutes a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of their country.   History of Labor Day in the US: In many countries, the working classes sought to make May Day an official holiday, and their efforts largely succeeded. In the United States and Canada, however, the official holiday…

Honda’s Project Drive-In Saving a Part of American Culture

    August 19, 2013 /

A few weeks ago I was thinking about how much fun it was to go to the drive-in as a kid.  My parents owned a yellow VW Bus (which ended up being my first car), and my brother and I would sit in the back, in our pajamas, with our bag of popcorn so excited to watch the movie we could hardly contain ourselves!  Going to the drive-ins was such a wonderful childhood experience that I wanted to see about taking my daughter to a local drive-in.  Little did I know that the only drive-in left in California is located in the top of the state, hundreds of miles away.  The…

Camping with Kids: 5 Tips to Ensure You Triumph Over Nature

    August 10, 2013 /

Memorial Day weekend has long been considered the unofficial start of summer. In 2013, AAA estimated that 34.8 million people would drive 50 miles or more on that holiday, and vacation traffic only gets worse by the Fourth of July and after, when the weather really starts to heat up. Anyone who lives near the coast or by a lake knows the roadways become gridlocked with RVs and campers, trucks pulling boats and jet skis, and cars saddled with roof-racks carrying more bicycles than you will find at the Tour de France. Where is everyone going? Camping, of course. Spending a week at a campground in the summer…

Searching for Sea Glass on Prince Edward Island

    April 28, 2013 /

Located on Canada’s east coast, Prince Edward Island (P.E.I.) boasts stunning beaches, pastoral landscapes with lush rolling hills, cozy towns, and exquisite seafood restaurants. Author Lucy Maud Montgomery put the Island on the proverbial world map when she made the Island the setting of her classic novel Anne of Green Gables.   Our Family Connection to the Island: My husband was born on the Island so we have done the P.E.I. road trip a few times now. This past summer, despite the worst vacation weather experienced to date, we managed to enjoy the Island and all it has to offer—without having to resort to the use of TV and video…
