Melissa’s Musings :: Enjoying the Simple Things
These past few months have been some of the most challenging I have experienced in my life. No one can prepare you for losing a loved one and I think it is something that once you go through such deep sadness one is changed forever. I do feel less afraid of death as I feel my father’s presence around me. And knowing that he is just on the other side waiting for my family comforts me somehow. Some of the things I’ve learned along this journey include: Not everyone is comfortable talking about death. I found out pretty quickly that many of us are not comfortable talking about death or…

Instagram Inspiration: Making Memories
Growing up in Southern California in the 1970’s and 80’s was a great time to be a kid! We would spend hours at our pool and had many family trips to the beach. It has been great incorporating these same activities we did as kids into our family outings. My husband and daughter have been hitting the beach early in the am for years (and letting tired mom sleep in). He has been secretly wishing she would take to surfing because he has wanted to teach her how to surf since she was a baby. I think he wants a surfing buddy so he has an excuse to hit the beach…

Reflections :: Cultivating Kairos
Image courtesy of Catalina Island Chamber of Commerce My mother came from the east coast over the weekend for a short but full trip, and the next thing I knew? Chronos,…

The Balancing Act of A Work At Home Mom
I am a Work-At-Home-Mom (WAHM). Just being a Stay-At-Home-Mom is a tremendous job, but now that I’ve thrown “Work” into the mix, it’s become an even more tangled web of tightropes to navigate. Some days the chores don’t get done, and sometimes the kids watch a little more television than I’d like, but I know that eventually, we will reap rewards from my work that will enable us to have a fuller, more adventurous life. I started working from home shortly after the birth of my son. I was laid off from my job at a publishing company while I was on maternity, which was really a blessing, as I…

Things to Do When the Kids are Sick

Of course, she recovered in no time and I was feeling bad for over a week. I sure wish I had her little immune system! We literally spent the two days in bed recovering watching movies. Thank goodness for Netflix and their huge array of movie options that is for sure! If you find yourself or your family sick in bed – here are is a list of movie options that Netflix put together for families to enjoy. Plus they provided us with some…
