Kids will love Camp Google – an online summer camp

    July 17, 2015 /

This past week was the start of Camp Google featuring Sylvia Earle, marine biologist and Explorer-in-Residence at National Geographic and host of the first week of Camp Google.  This online summer camp was created to spark curiosity in children with four weeks of live adventures geared towards students ages 7-10 now through August 7th.   During each of the four weeks of Camp Google, kids 7-10 can explore different subjects by joining live adventures—from the depths of the Atlantic to the top of one of the world’s most active volcanoes—and doing fun science projects. Last week, Sylvia and  National Geographic diver Erika Bergman took kids on the first adventure—a live…

What’s for Dinner :: Italian Chopped Salad

    July 12, 2015 /

With summer upon us it can be tough finding the time (or energy) to make dinner so I have been on the hunt for really simple yet healthy meals I can make in a moments time. Last week I picked up a premade Italian Chopped Salad  at the grocery that included all the makings (Romaine Lettuce, Brocolli, Red Cabbage, Green Onions, and Parsley) for a yummy Italian salad.  I wasn’t sure how much salami, etc., was included in the package so I went ahead and bought some nitrate-free salami (two types), mozzarella cheese, nitrate and MSG-free turkey and some grape tomatoes.  I already had the dressing and Greek olives on…

Minions :: A Movie Review, Giveaway and Party Ideas

    July 9, 2015 /

We had a chance to attend a prescreening of Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment’s Minions a few weekends ago and I have to say it is my daughter’s absolute favorite movie she has seen so far this summer.  I do think Inside Out is a close second since we’ve seen it five times already but something about these funny little yellow guys had our whole family laughing throughout the movie.  At the start of the movie we see that Minions began at the dawn of time where they started as single-celled yellow organisms and evolved through the ages, perpetually serving the most despicable of masters.  Continuously unsuccessful at keeping these masters—from T.…

What’s Hot in Southern California :: The Irvine Regional Park

    July 8, 2015 /

One of the first things I wanted to do when my daughter was first born was take her to the Irvine Regional Park pumpkin patch.  We did go when she was only four months  old and I was in heaven!  See, I had dreamed about doing this with my yet unborn child. While we were dreaming of having a child my mind would go to “I can’t wait to take her to the pumpkin patch!”  So it was super exciting for me to take her to the gorgeous Irvine Park years ago.  It is now a family tradition and we try to visit every major holiday plus during vacations as there is…

Recipes :: Quick & Simple July Fourth Treats

    June 28, 2015 /

A Patriotic Ice Cream Sandwich: The Fourth of July is one of my favorite holidays because we can just sit back and enjoy each other with no pressure of gift-giving (yes, this can be a little stressful don’t you think?).  We usually spend the day at the pool and eat bits and pieces all day long.  You know how it is!  This year I want to make a couple patriotic treats to bring to the pool and these are some simple but delicious treats that just about anyone can make.  Like I said, July 4th is a no-pressure holiday so let’s not stress too much about the food!  Enjoy yourselves! These…

In the Spotlight: Best Fiends Keeps You Entertained

    June 22, 2015 /

Best Fiends Fiend (Noun) [/Feend/]: “A Mythical, mischievous little creature inhabiting the world of Minutia.” You probably remember the scene in Gladiator when Russell Crowe’s character yells to the crowd “are you not entertained?”  That line kept going through my mind while playing the very popular app Best Fiends by developer Seriously.  Yes, seriously, that is their name and one my daughter got a kick out of since this is one of her favorite words these days!  I have to say I was very entertained playing this game!     One of the reasons I think Best Fiends is so popular is because of the funny background story of the Best Fiends and…
