Wellness :: The Importance of Probiotics for Your Health
After studying nutrition and health for almost twenty years now and completing my Masters in Nutrition through the University of Bridgeport two main points have stood out to me about one’s health and achieving a healthy life. For me, being healthy means you can do the things you want to do in life at an intensity that you would like to do it at. Our health is the foundation for enjoying life to it’s fullest and the two very important aspects of being healthy is staying hydrated and our digestive system. After reading F. Batmanghelidj, M.D. book “Your Body’s Many Cries for Water” in my masters program, it reiterated the importance of water for your overall health. …

Wellness :: One Woman’s Story
I have struggled with my weight ever since I was little. I’ve been on every diet from Weight Watchers to Jenny Craig. I even went as far as getting lap-band surgery eight years ago. I did manage to lose around 140+ pounds in about eight months. I was then blessed with the pregnancy of my first and only child and ended up gaining almost all the weight back during my pregnancy. A big realization happened a little over 3 months ago and I decided it was time to turn my life around and work on myself and my weight again. I realized I needed to start taking better…

Family :: Staying Fit Together
Image courtesy of Flickr If you are like most busy moms, you are constantly trying to find ways (and time) to exercise. My daughter just had three weeks of Spring Break; having her home was fun but it definitely threw a wrench in my routine. Stay Fit with These Mommy and Me Activities
Just after my first child was born, I completely lost track of my weight. I was so busy spending time bonding with my daughter that I stopped taking care of my body. If someone told me that I could have been working out while connecting with my baby, I probably would have thought they were a sandwich short of a picnic. By the time the Mommy & Me exercise craze hit, my daughter was already out of diapers, but I had taken notice. During my second pregnancy, I gained 40 pounds and developed tendonitis in my shoulder. After my son was born, I immediately signed up for…

Fitness :: Exercise Regimes for a Healthy Lifestyle
As moms sometimes there is not enough time to fit in an exercise regime. Becoming a parent doesn’t put a halt to the complexities of life. There are the regular responsibilities of shopping, working, and cleaning. That alone can make fitting in daily or weekly exercise a hassle, but then there’s the parent responsibilities that you love and at times kind of don’t love that seem to suck away the rest of your time. By the time you get a free moment, you might not feel like exercising that time away. Unfortunately exercise should be considered just as vital to you as feeding the kids or cleaning the house. Arranging time…

The Importance of a Healthy Immune System
(Photograph of a virus vs. the immune system). The fall season is one of my favorite times of year but it can also be quite stressful – between running around trying to get it all done in time and eating on the run – can cause havoc on your health. Last month, I had an episode with my own health and ended up being hospitalized for four days with some funky virus. Granted, as the doctor explained, viruses are around us all the time – and some are affected by them and others are not. But I do understand that if my immune system wasn’t compromised, then it wouldn’t have affected…
