In the Spotlight: Best Fiends Keeps You Entertained

    June 22, 2015 /

Best Fiends Fiend (Noun) [/Feend/]: “A Mythical, mischievous little creature inhabiting the world of Minutia.” You probably remember the scene in Gladiator when Russell Crowe’s character yells to the crowd “are you not entertained?”  That line kept going through my mind while playing the very popular app Best Fiends by developer Seriously.  Yes, seriously, that is their name and one my daughter got a kick out of since this is one of her favorite words these days!  I have to say I was very entertained playing this game!     One of the reasons I think Best Fiends is so popular is because of the funny background story of the Best Fiends and…

    Bonding Over Old-School Classics

    June 5, 2015 /

Image found on awn My younger brother and I couldn’t wait for Saturday cartoons and our morning would usually start around 6:30 am, him in his Superhero Underoo’s (remember those?), our cereal bowls filled with Fruity Pebbles or Lucky Charms (our favorites) and we would watch cartoons until about noon.  It is great sharing these old school cartoons and movies with my daughter. I think part of the appeal for parents to share toys, TV shows and movies they grew up with is to show our kids that we were kids once too!  And I think it lets us go down memory lane to a time of childhood wonder. There’s something pretty awesome…

    TECH A BREAK… You Won’t Get Board!

    June 19, 2014 /

About a month ago it was my weekend to keep the kids (I have them during the week as well but we do try and plan out weekends with fun things so it’s not just school, homework etc and I’m perceived as no fun) … anyway, they were calling for rain. ALL WEEKEND LONG. Now, having two children ages 8 and a newly anointed 7 year old, hearing rain all weekend and cold means being cooped up and boring! So, I said “hey, here’s an idea. I think you two are old enough for board games now.” My daughter (the youngest) got excited. My son barely…

Nintendo 3DS Companion “Chat-Pak” Helps You Stay Connected

    June 5, 2014 /

‘In barely more than a generation, video games transformed from a diversion for the few into a mass medium, helping people live, learn, work, and of course, play.    ~ The Entertainment Software Association   It’s been a few years now that game sales ($24 billion) have outpaced movie box office sales (just $10 billion per year), but now games are a serious competitor to the entire TV/film industry with game play now eating into even mainstays like television viewing.  I know my daughter prefers to play games or watch her favorite shows on our tablets.  It is interesting how technology has changed the way children watch TV programming…
