      Recently, I came across an organization that provides books to families in need.  As a children’s author and mom to an early reader, I know the importance of providing books and encouraging a love of reading to kids.  We are fortunate to have access to many books and always consider it a treat to visit our local independent bookstore. But many families are not in a situation to do this.   Meredith Alexander has created a wonderful organization called Milk + Bookies that encourages families to come together for a Milk+Bookies event, have some milk and cookies and buy books that are then donated to families in need.  One of the…

    I was heartened to find an article on this site promoting emotional literacy in today’s young people.  Emotional literacy begins when we own the experience of our feelings by allowing them without judgment.   To be alive and Internet savvy right now suggests that physical needs—water, shelter, food—are met and likely well-surpassed.  Beyond these basic needs, beyond health and education and security, regardless of our economic standing, what calls us now is a push towards emotional evolution.  Towards living a daily experience of loving compassion.
