For many, choosing a gluten-free diet is a necessity due to health issues.  I do find I feel better if I minimize the amount of foods that contain gluten.   You don’t need to feel deprived this holiday season with these yummy treats! Here are some of our favorite gluten-free and vegan sweets we found.  Which recipe do you want to try out this holiday season?   Gluten-free and Vegan Chocolate Peppermint Cupcake A friend made some of these and posted some pictures on her Instagram feed.  Anything to do with chocolate draws me in and she was sweet and dropped one off at my doorstep (Thank you Megan!).  Our…

PROBIOTICS: What Are They & Why Do We Need Them for Our Digestion

    August 23, 2016 /

PROBIOTICS: What Are They & Why Do We Need Them for Our Digestion We have bacteria in our gut. And a lot. (Trivia: There are approximately 500 bacterial species in the gut, specially, the colon.) The good news, most of them are friendly and have a ton of important functions that need to happen every day in order to maintain a strong digestive system. To break the friendly down, “Pro” means “good,” and “biotics” means life thus probiotics are referred to as, the friendly, beneficial bacterial gut flora species in the gut.     Their Functions: • aid in protecting the digestive system from an overgrowth of germs • stimulate…

Recipes :: Fall Paleo (Gluten-Free) Dishes

    September 29, 2013 /

For Mother’s Day this year my husband gave me the book The Paleoista by Nell Stephenson that changed my life and my body.  For reasons I will go into in my health post this week, I was at a real down point with my health (and up with the pounds) that I was willing to try just about anything to feel and look better!  Fast forward a few months and I have lost 17 pounds, can finally fit into my wardrobe again and gave my bigger clothes to The Salvation Army as I figured I wouldn’t ever need them again if I stick to this way of eating.  It was the easiest…

Recipe:: Stay Hydrated with Fruit Flavored Water

    March 30, 2013 /

Homemade Fruit Flavored Water: I love flavored water but I don’t like the added sugars or sweeteners that you find in the store, so I just make my own. It’s very easy. Just gather some fruit and some herbs and you’re ready to go. For this water I made an all Citrus, (no herbs) mixture. It’s a great picker-upper for those coming warm summer days. If your kids are used to sugary drinks, they probably won’t take to it at first, but give them some time and they will come to love the sweet natural flavors without the extra sugar.     Ingredients: fruit –2 cups of whichever fruit…

Gluten Free Frozen Yogurt Fruit Bites

    March 24, 2013 /

I love to have fun snacks for my kids that are healthy as well as tasty. I also look for snacks that are easy to make. Since I eat gluten free, I try to find snacks that will work for me as well as for my kids. For this snack, I cut up some fruit and dipped the small bites size pieces in Greek Yogurt. I used honey flavored, but you can use vanilla, or plain yogurt too.  Greek Yogurt is a little thicker, so I find that it works betters than regular yogurt. After the fruit pieces are dipped in the yogurt, place them on parchment paper and put…

    Homemade Buttermilk Syrup

    December 3, 2012 /

Pancakes and french toast are some of my families favorite breakfast foods. Especially on the weekends. We love maple syrup and we even make our own yummy vanilla syrup, but I must say that this buttermilk syrup is my new favorite! This delicious syrup topping is perfect for pancakes, french toast, and crepes, and yes; it’s gluten–free. If you are tired of maple syrup and want to shake things up at the breakfast table, then give this buttermilk syrup a try. It’s fabulous as a topping on ice cream, too! Buttermilk Syrup 1 stick butter 1 C sugar 1C buttermilk 1 vanilla 1 T corn syrup 1/2 tsp baking soda…
