Thanksgiving Books and Recipes to Share with the Kids

    November 15, 2017 /

Image courtesy of Old Design Shop   It’s almost Thanksgiving! Tis the season to be thankful! It’s always time to be thankful, of course, but I love this time of year because many people take the time to remind themselves and share with others what they are thankful for. This is a time to reconnect with my kids and discuss what we have to be thankful for. Instead of having a sit-down conversation, we share our thoughts while we’re in the kitchen baking and trying new recipes. And we read stories together. Stories that teach us about the challenges of others, the struggles of the past, and joy and…

Celebrating Math on National Pi Day!

    March 13, 2017 /

March 14 is National Pi Day. That’s right, there is a National Day to celebrate the never-ending number that is often reduced to 3.14159. What is Pi? Pi is the number of times a circle’s diameter will fit around its circumference. It’s true that people love Pi, but the real reason that the House of Representatives passed House Resolution 224 is because math is a vital part of education for children. Children who perform well in math have higher graduation and college attendance rates. National Pi Day is a way to encourage educators to engage in fun mathematical activities that get kids thinking. Math is a popular…

    Fun Facts for Inauguration Day

    January 20, 2017 /

Every four years, a president is sworn into office by taking the Presidential oath. While the oath itself is quite short, the inauguration events for modern presidents have become huge, celebratory exhibitions. In addition to being sworn in, the new President generally gives a speech, or an Inaugural Address. There are often parades, parties, and even Meet & Greets in the days following the swearing in of the new President. Here are some fun Inauguration Day Facts to share with the kids. The oath is only 35 words long: I do solemnly swear that I will faithfully execute the office of President of the United States and will to…

    A Grand Canyon Family Adventure

    December 10, 2016 /

The Grand Canyon is a fantastic place for a family adventure. I was worried at first. My nature is to foresee the worst possible outcome and worry about it fanatically. So of course, I pictured my children tumbling over the edge. But thanks to my tight grip on tiny wrists we avoided that. It was in fact, one of my favorite vacations so far. We spent a week exploring Grand Canyon National Park in November. One of the great things about the Park is once you enter, you don’t really need to leave until you are ready to go. There are plenty of affordable places to eat within the…

It’s hard not to love Thanksgiving. There is so much to enjoy – family, friends, food, fall weather.
