    An Unexpected Journey in Hobbiton – The Land of Fantasy and Magic in New Zealand

    June 4, 2017 /

    In a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit.. Written by Kaitlin Murray Beyond the rolling green hills of the North Island lies Hobbiton, the famous movie set for the Hobbit and Lord of the Rings trilogies in New Zealand. As one of my favorite experiences during our entire trip, Hobbiton is a place that transports you into another world of fantasy and dreams, where you can leave behind the real world for awhile. Our long awaited adventure began as we arrived at the Shire’s Rest, a cafe, shop, and gateway to the movie set. There you can find all sorts of great trinkets, gifts, and fun memorabilia! To…

    Why Heading Outdoors is Good for Your Health

    April 13, 2017 /

      What is it about the sea that always puts us in a good mood and relaxes us?  No matter what is going on in my life, if I take some time out and head to the beach for a quick walk or nature hike with the family, I always come back home feeling relaxed and in a good mood.  There are many proven health benefits for heading to the beach that can’t be overlooked!  But even spending time outdoors – no matter where you go – is so good for your mind and spirit!  Take the time to relax your body and mind and head outdoors! Start Walking and Reclaim Your Mind and Body

    July 17, 2016 /

    “Life is like riding a bicycle. To keep your balance, you must keep moving.”                         ~ Albert Einstein A few months ago I decided to take time out for myself and get back in shape. I was SO over carrying this extra weight I gained from my neck injury and taking steroids (it is a real thing people) and I wanted to find a form of exercise that would fit into my busy lifestyle.  Heck, we are all too busy these days, but finding time to take care of our body is so very important. I think many times…

    Parenting :: Creating Family Adventures

    February 8, 2016 /

      A year ahead for the family is all about taking on new adventures. If 2015 is any indication, they could be good, bad or just plain hysterical.  Our family has taken a few adventures that have definitely created some lifelong memories.  We tend to take day-adventures and one of our favorites that we laugh about all the time is the day we brought our big German Shepherd mix to the dog beach in Huntington.  He was so excited he could barely contain himself!  In fact, he thought it was a good idea to eat all the sand he could find, run in the water after every dog he came across,…

    Exploring the Outdoors with Your Kids

    October 27, 2015 /

      Raising Happy and Healthy Kids: What is the best way to keep our kids happy and healthy? Take them outside. Now do not get me wrong, this is not going to be some post about how our kids should never play video games (my daughter loves Minecraft) but we should not live in a society where it is considered a punishment for your kid if you take away the electronic devices and make them go outside to play.   Keep it Simple: A lot of times as parents we overthink things. What kind of craft should we do? What kind of game should we play? I need to set up…
