The Weirdest Foods You Can Grow In Your Garden
What really fires our children’s imagination is the extraordinary. Whether this week’s fixation is monsters, aliens, magical powers, superheroes or mythical lands, it’s always the strange and the super that inspires them. If you’re struggling to get them excited about their vegetables, then use this knowledge to your advantage: here are some right truly magical, and sometimes monstrous, fruits and veggies that you can easily grow in your back garden. The process of growing produce in itself can inspire a sense of wonder in children. It also helps to get them more involved in the food they eat: tomatoes grown from seeds are inherently more interesting than those in…

Roam and Wander: Toys for Little Readers
Today’s post is brought to you by Roam and Wander. DiDi: iPad Powered Teddy Bear for Little Readers: I recently received the DiDi Teddy Bear (soft and plush it sits up with no problem plus has a teddy bear face without the iPad inserted ~ and my daughter loves “him” just as much without the iPad which is great) from Roam and Wander. He learned how to ride his two-wheel bike—without the training wheels. He learned how to swim in the deep end—without a life jacket. He learned how to blow a bubble (bubble gum). Considering how animated and energized Hayden was—and still is—most of the time, he is also a very relaxed, go-with-the-flow kind of child. That summer, while we were visiting with friends in Montreal, the kids were eating corn on…

Instagram of the Day :: The Importance of Lifelines
Lately, I have been thinking about how to balance my work life (which is mostly done online) with my home life. My daughter “gets” that daddy goes to work and doesn’t see him until he gets home at night but seems to get more upset if mom is working at home while she is here. I do my best to try to balance my work and my time with her and some days work out better than others. There is definitely some mommy guilt felt when I have a deadline to finish and she is wanting to play LEGO’s and I am trying to figure out how best to balance this…

Parenting :: Planting Seeds
photo by Stacie Isabella Turk/Ribbonhead.com The child’s thinking is neither more limited nor inferior to that of an adult. It is different. The child thinks with feelings and not with the intellect. That is why communication is so complicated. And speaking with children is a difficult art. ~ Janus Korczak Beliefs are potent seeds that, once planted, grow roots quickly and become part of the long-term fabric of the psyche. Sometimes a child’s beliefs about him/herself get planted without our realizing it and much like being a (fake) redhead (take it from this one,) it is the hardest color to get and the hardest color to get rid…
