Interview with National Geographic Photographer Annie Griffiths

    August 19, 2015 /

Today I had a chance to speak to National Geographic Photographer Annie Griffiths on a conference call along with other National Geographic Kids Insiders.  Annie has my dream job!  I am not kidding!  I remember watching the movie Bridges of Madison County years ago and thought that Clint Eastwood’s character had about the best job as he played a traveling National Geographic Photographer.  It seem so magical traveling from place to place documenting what you see with photographs!     Well, Annie has this dream job!  She has been to over 150 countries, founded The Ripple Effect Images, a nonprofit that helps poor women and also documents programs around the world that empower women and girls.  She…

    August 10, 2015 /

I Dreamed of Africa: One of my longtime dreams is to take a safari in Africa.  There is something so magical about seeing wild animals on the plains in Africa. Some of the animals I am most excited to experience (from a covered Jeep of course) are the magnificent lions.  This past week we have heard a lot of Cecil the Lion and it saddens me so that people would want to kill these gorgeous beasts.  They are meant to live out their lives protected and not hunted down by people getting their kicks off of having a stuffed lion on their den wall.   Support the National Geographic’s Big Cat Initiative: Unfortunately, big cats…

Kids will love Camp Google – an online summer camp

    July 17, 2015 /

This past week was the start of Camp Google featuring Sylvia Earle, marine biologist and Explorer-in-Residence at National Geographic and host of the first week of Camp Google.  This online summer camp was created to spark curiosity in children with four weeks of live adventures geared towards students ages 7-10 now through August 7th.   During each of the four weeks of Camp Google, kids 7-10 can explore different subjects by joining live adventures—from the depths of the Atlantic to the top of one of the world’s most active volcanoes—and doing fun science projects. Last week, Sylvia and  National Geographic diver Erika Bergman took kids on the first adventure—a live…
