PBS Kids Writers Contest Encourages Creative Writing

    March 18, 2014 /

Many of you know that I am a children’s picture book author.  I can even claim that I am an award-winning author as my first two books, Penelope the Purple Pirate and Gerry the Giraffe have both won awards.  I mention this is because many people assume I majored in English  since I write children’s books or in Journalism since I founded and write daily for dandelion moms.  I actually studied Business Administration and Health Science in college and went on to study Human Nutrition at The University of Bridgeport.  The reason I am writing about this is because I think it is important to stress that if you have…

PBS Kids Provides School Readiness Tips for Parents

    February 25, 2014 /

School Readiness Tips for Parents  Understanding that the first five years of a child’s life are a time of physical, emotional, social and cognitive growth, parents and caregivers should look for resources and tips to help prepare children to enter school, including the following PBS KIDS tips:   1. Be involved and make learning fun. Research shows that children are more likely to succeed academically and socially in school when their parents or caregivers actively support and encourage them to take pleasure in learning.   2. Talk with your child. Young learners need to be in language rich environments. Talking to your child about a book you read together or exploring…

Latest & Greatest :: PBS Kids Releases Dinosaur Train A to Z

    February 14, 2014 /

By now you probably know what a big fan I am of the PBS Kids show Dinosaur Train – seriously how smart is that to combine trains and dinosaurs!  My daughter has watched this show since it was released a few years back.  I love learning about dinosaurs right along with her as it has been while since I studied about dinosaurs in school.  My favorite was always the Stegosaurus  because he was a plant eater and had those cool spikes on his back.  PBS Kids recently released Dinosaur Train A to Z is the ultimate dinosaur app from the hit PBS KIDS show Dinosaur Train. The app…

PBS Kids Celebrates 100th Day of School with some Activities

    February 7, 2014 /

Children across the country celebrated the 100th day of school today and PBS Kids has put together some fun ideas to try out today or this weekend!  Last night we worked on my daughter’s school project and I know she was really excited to share it today at school.  They had her list 100 items – whatever she wanted – in groups of 10’s to celebrated the 100th day.  Here are some more fun ideas:   Celebrate the 100th Day of School What better way to celebrate the 100th day of school than with activities all about the number 100? Below are fun ways the whole family can…

PBS Kids Releases CyberChase Shape Quest!

    January 14, 2014 /

I was just speaking with one of the moms today at drop off about how I really want to encourage my daughter in math because I really was so afraid of it all throughout elementary school on through college.  I am not sure where it stemed from but I have been pleasantly surprised and happy to see that she is not having any issues with math – in fact, she prefers math to reading.  So I can’t wait to try the Cyberchase Shape Quest, a new app for iPad with her this afternoon.  The app is based on the Emmy Award®-winning series, Cyberchase. Kids, ages 6-9, are invited to follow popular characters Buzz…
