Discover the Reasons for the #Activate4Autism Movement

    October 13, 2017 /

Chances are someone in your community or social network is on the autism spectrum. You may not be aware of the challenges they face. Most grow up with a sense of shame because they’ve been stereotyped, judged as strange, and often bullied for being different. If you have a loved one with autism, you know how important it is that we help the public gain a deeper understanding of the autism experience. At Geek Club Books, we make it our mission to engage and educate the public about autism—to replace stereotypes and fears with curiosity and wonder. We launched an #Activate4Autism movement that brings together voice actors who are in…

Being a Mom (What it Means to Me)

    May 8, 2016 /

Trying to put into words what being a mom is – to me. It’s hard. I can’t explain it. It’s like a combination of feelings, words, hope, happiness, sometimes sadness and/or grief, being scared or nervous, anticipation, wonderment and awe, as if every feeling I’ve ever experienced is multiplied times a thousand and it leaves me at a loss for words. It’s not simple … yet it is. When I look at my two kids I can instantly see them as if they were just placed into my arms. I can see them or imagine them when they’re graduating or getting married or having children of their own. It’s rewarding…

Inspirational Mom :: Tara McCallan of the Happy Soul Project

    January 22, 2015 /

Last year I came across a picture of the sweetest little girl I could imagine and had to find out more about her.  Her mom, Tara McCallan, started the Happy Soul Project right after the birth of her daughter, Pip, who was born with Down Syndrome and some health issues.  She wanted to show to the world, through Pip, that being different is cool and beautiful.  I think her message and the work she is doing to bring awareness to Down Syndrome is truly inspirational.  I can’t even begin to think about the numbers of families who have been inspired by her message and seeing the love of life that Pip…

Her First and Won’t be Her Last

    January 31, 2014 /

This time last year I was on night 1 of at least 4 or 5 nights of absolutely no sleep. This time tomorrow I was desperately trying to look into my 5 week old baby girl’s eyes still hoping for a miraculous miracle. This time the following day I was handing my tiny baby to a surgeon and literally collapsing and choking in fear… This time the day after I was learning to put in and care for a minuscule contact and instructed to patch my daughter’s “good eye” half her waking hours – Awesome to decipher for a newborn right?  This time last year was just filled with the unknown… Would the surgery be…

Reflections :: Shine on Pip – Shine On

    January 1, 2014 /

My Sweet Pip,     I’ve been reflecting the last few weeks about all that has happened in 365 days and trust me, you will hear about it your entire life…Your first year here baby girl, was one hell of a ride…And you have the scars to show for it – Literally… At least once a day, I run my finger over the scar that saved your life and fixed your heart…You endured so much, too much & because of it I know you can & will get through anything…I promise I will always tell you how strong you are & how proud I am of your spirited fighter determination…    …
