Culture :: History of Skateboarding in Southern California

    September 3, 2014 /

Growing up in Southern California in the 70’s I was introduced to skateboarding early on.  I have a vivid memory of skateboarding down the street near my house trailing behind my dog, Max (a large Standard Poodle) holding his leash while riding.  I thought it a good idea to grab a tennis ball I found in the gutter and throw it and jump back on to have Max drag us along.  Hmmm… not such a good idea as I went tumbling when my board hit a rock and I still have to this day a scar on my elbow.  When my daughter asked for a board last year I did…

Camp Snoopy Celebrates 30th Anniversary at Knott’s Berry Farm

    June 21, 2014 /

Last week I was invited to attend the reopening of the famed Calico Mine Co. ride and 30th Celebration of Camp Snoopy at Knott’s Berry Farm.  I grew up with Knott’s Berry Farm and loved (and still do) the jelly’s (they have come out with a new jam and funnel cakes they sell at the park.  As part of the celebration of 30 years of Camp Snoopy, Knott’s revitalized the five-acre nature wonderland.  We visited Camp Snoopy during their Halloween Haunt celebrations and really had a great time – this Haunt is geared towards younger children.  The revisions include new all-encompassing trail-like stamped concrete, use of natural wood throughout,…

3 Ways To Entertain Your Kids This Weekend

    February 22, 2014 /

Much of the country is cold and covered with snow right now, but here in Southern California, we’re blessed with plenty of sunshine.  Thanks to beautiful weather and a location that provides endless possibilities, there are oceans of adventures to embark on. Wherever you are, here are a few ways you can entertain your kids this weekend.   Take the train – Or the Metro. Los Angeles has a growing number of Metro Rail trains that transport riders around the city and surrounding areas. Take the Metro Red or Purple rail lines to the Pershing Square Station and walk to the Angels Flight Railway at 351 South Hill Street.…

What’s Hot in Southern California :: Knott’s Camp Spooky Halloween Event

    September 25, 2013 /

If you grew up in southern California you probably have visited Knott’s Berry Farm theme park as a kid.  I loved going to Knott’s and remember eating the yummy pie and funnel cakes.  In fact, I wanted to share the Knott’s Berry Farm experience with my daughter, so we purchased the year-round tickets this year.  It is quite the bargain and we have full access to the park year-round (and even the water park) for under $200.  Last time my daughter and I went to Knott’s Berry Farm we headed to the famous Mrs. Knott’s Restaurant and ate a delicious plate of fried chicken and her famous pie. We even…
